The Reggae Girl About Town Flexes Her Design Skills
Reshma B, the UK-based music journalist, showed off her design skills at Caribbean Fashion Week in Kingston, Jamaica. ReshmaB Chains—recently included on Mass Appeal‘s round-up of New Streetwear Brands Who Are Killing it Right Now—made their runway debut at CFW’s Friday kick off. Pulse top model Oraine Barrett walked the runway, while three-time Vogue cover girl Jeneil Williams was spotted wearing a pair of ReshmaB earrings in the front row. Designer Reshma B capped the night by taking to the catwalk rocking a bright orange Day-Glo “Wah Gwan” chain, flashing her trademark peace sign, and snapping shots of the experience with a selfie stick. Kicking off the weekend with a memorable appearance on Jamaica’s leading TV morning show, CVM at Sunrise—perhaps the first time the phrase “Benz Punany” was uttered on Jamaican television—alongside Pulse Jamaica co-director Romae Gordon, Reshma B completed a whirlwind schedule of radio, print, and online press. Noted reggae scholar Dr. Carolyn Cooper devoted her Sunday column in the Jamaica Gleaner to Reshma B’s “patwa chains.” Her fashion week debut was one of the most anticipated collections at CFW’s 15th Anniversary. “When we first met I really liked the idea of the chains coming down the runway,” says Romae Gordon of Pulse Modelling Agency & Fashion Director of CFW. “They’re topical, they’re of the moment. They are so relevant to the social media space and can easily go viral. I’ve seen several people in the audience wearing them. Reshma is definitely on to something.”
