HEAR THIS: Mr. Vegas ft. Sean Paul & Fatman Scoop “Party Tun Up Remix”
Longtime Sparring Partners Link Up And Make The Party Buck
Back in 1998 Jeremy Harding’s 2 Hard productions was an upstart Jamaican label making waves with the Playground riddim. Before it became known as the backing track for Beenie Man’s smash hit “Who Am I” (aka “Sim-Simma”), the Playground was already hot in the dance thanks to fresh tunes from brand new artists like Mr. Vegas “Nike Air” and Sean Paul “Infiltrate.” In the years to come Vegas and Sean Paul would go on to become household names, both of them scoring hit after hit on the local and outernational scene. And every time they collaborated—on songs like “Hot Gal Today” and “Tiger Bone,” not to mention “Top Shotter” with DMX on the Belly soundtrack—they made history. It’s been a long time since these two linked up, but today we’re happy to report that the old sparring partners are back at it, this time with a little help from NYC hypemaster Fatman Scoop. Remember Mr. Vegas’s club banger “Party Tun Up”? Well here comes the reeeeeeeemix! Audio After The Jump…

Scratch Perry is a bonafide genius who collaborates with all sorts of curious characters these days in a perversely willy-nilly style & fashion, but when the Black Ark visionary connected with the UK ambient dub duo The Orb, the results has been sheer audio awesomeness. This hypnotic bass-heavy groove provides a perfect backdrop for Perry’s manic ramblings and if you don’t like the video version there’s nuff more remixes in store. Video & Audio after the jump…

The Wisdom Of Lee “Scratch” Perry
Win Tickets To See The Artist Formerly Known As Pipecock Jaxson in NYC This Thursday
Long before Lil Wayne started proclaiming that he was “not a human being,” Lee “Scratch” Perry had the whole self-mythologizing thing down to a science. Unfortunately Scratch the character—order your limited edition vinyl… action figure before midnight tonight!—has very nearly eclipsed Lee “Scratch” Perry the man, who just happens to be a bonafide musical genius. His influence on legendary artists ranging from Bob Marley to The Beastie Boys has been well documented, still the cult of personality persists. But when Scratch takes the stage to perform live tonight in Washington D.C., he might just remind a few people what all the fuss is about. (Check the tour dates below.) If you happen to be in New York City tomorrow night, answer our million-dollar question for a chance to win tickets to the May 17th show at NYC’s Gramercy Theatre. And even if you can’t make it to any of these gigs, read on to pick up some pearls of Perry wisdom, as reported by the man called Emch, whose Subatomic Sound System has toured the world with Scratch. -
