WATCH THIS: Orezi “Rihanna” Official Music Video

Naija Pop Banger About a Girl Who Looks Just Like RiRi

You may not know the name Orezi yet, but it rhymes with “crazy.” In Lagos, Nigeria they call him the “Ghen Ghen Master.” He’s put up his like “Booty Bounce” and “I No Fit Lie,” but this song—about a girl who makes him say “na na na” and to whom he wants to give his “ba na na”—looks like his biggest yet. “I am into music to make my mark and leave my foot prints,” he recently told one South African blog. “I am glad that South Africans and Nigerians resident here accepted my music and they have showed me so much love that I am overwhelmed. I never knew that ‘Rihanna’ is an anthem here like it is in Nigeria, for that I give glory to God and my management companies, Sprisal Records and Synergy Entertainment.” They’ve spared no expense on this jiggy video, complete with a canary-yellow Lambo that’s almost as pretty as the leading lady. Somebody needs to remix this tune cause it feels like something that could cross over in a big way. Video After The Jump…

Vybz Kartel Speaks From Behind Bars: “Betrayed Is The Order of the Day”

A Few Words From The Worl’ Boss

Earlier this week Tads Records released a triple album entitled Kartel Forever: The Trilogy. The album includes 60 tracks, ranging from some of Kartel’s most popular hits—such as “Touch A Button,” “Benz Punany,” “Cake Soap,” “Ramping Shop” ft. Spice, and “Straight Jeans and Fitted”—to new and unreleased songs such as “School,” on which Kartel advises youths “don’t bleach your face,” and  “Business,” which has been mashing up dances across Jamaica—and also stirring up controversy about whether the artist has been recording music from his jail cell. (Kartel has been incarcerated for nearly two years, charged with two murders. He’s since been found not guilty on the first of these cases, and he expects to face trial for the second case this November.) “I want to thank all my supporters for your love and unfailing support throughout these trying times,” Kartel stated in a press release accompanying the new album. “Even though I am incarcerated, I am still up to the time. This album shows that I get stronger with each passing second. Tad’s plus Adidjaheim Records is a sick formula and the result is Kartel Forever: Trilogy. Worl’ Boss fullstop!” To help support his album roll-out Kartel agreed to answer a few questions relayed via reliable links close to the artist. But just when things seemed to be looking up for the dancehall “Worl’ Boss,” his cell was raided last week by police investigating the murder of producer Patrick “Roach” Samuels, Kartel’s former road manager. Two cellular phones, a  DVD player, and thumb drives were confiscated and any hopes for a dialogue with Kartel seemed to be dashed. But just this morning we received answers to some of the questions we submitted prior to the police raid. We are publishing them exactly as they came to us without editing.  Email Interview After The Jump…

  • HEAR THIS: Ricky Blaze “Last Try”

HEAR THIS: Ricky Blaze “Last Try”

    What Is Love Without Trust?

You might know Ricky Blaze as the man who produced Gyptian’s “Hold Yuh,” the first reggae/dancehall cut to be certified gold since Jr. Gong’s “Welcome to Jamrock.” You might know him as the guy who sang that song “I Feel Free.” But really what he is is a creative force. Working out of a basement studio in Flatbush BK, Mr. Blaze has made his share of classic dancehall cuts, but he’s also capable of creating whole new genres. Take his latest release for example—a dreamy blend of trance, dancehall, and R&B that he’s dubbed “trancehall.” The songs is called “Last Try,” and it’s all affairs of the heart. They can be a treacherous thing, as Ricky reminds us here amidst alluring audio arrays. “Lack of communication leads us down the road to temptation.” Some of y’all really need to hear this one. Trust & believe. Audio After The Jump…
