Fresh Out Of Prison, Busy Gives Thanks To God As He Touches Back Down On Jamaican Turf
Tweeting “Guess who’s back? God is GOOD!” Busy signal announced his return to Jamaica on Friday November 17, four days ahead of schedule but not a moment too soon. Incarcerated since May 21 for absconding from an old drug charge dating back to 2002, Busy was released from a federal prison in Minnesota after the judge determined that he had done so much good with his freedom over the past ten years that the artist had essentially rehabilitated himself. It looks like Busy lost a lot of weight during his six months behind bars, but some of that good old Jamaica cooking will surely do him good. Welcome back Busy! May your good fortune give hope to others who are languishing in prison even now. Photos and Video After The Jump… (more…)

WATCH THIS: Ninja Man Meets Tommy Lee at Sting Offices
The Don Gorgon Drops Knowledge On The Gaza Spartan
“Me no come yah fi kill you. Me wan’ see you rise,” Ninja Man told Tommy Lee yesterday when visited the Supreme Promotions, the promoters of the annual boxing day stage show Sting. Of all the artists to work Sting over the years, Ninja has to be considered the year-to-year crowd favorite, so it was fitting that he take time out to school Tommy Lee as he prepares for his first appearance on the big stage. The Don Gorgon offer the young DJ all sorts of advice: “You have to straighten out that Demon ting yah.” Flipping into Brother Desmond mode, Ninja advised Tommy of his social responsibility: “Youth you have a responsibility to guide the young generation to the right destination.” Ninja also spoke on Tommy Lee’s lyrics: “Go back go listen listen Ninja Man dem and Papa San dem inna the years and hear how much lyrics them put in song. Ah that music short of right now.” Ninja even reminisced about his epic clashes with Super Cat (“The ting with me and Super Cat. That night is the first night my foot ever shake on the stage”) and even the infamous clash with Vybz Kartel (“That was of the past and let bygones be bygones.”) Video After The Jump… -

HEAR THIS: Bounty Killer “Nyammy Lee”
The Warlord Blazes Lyrical Fire On The Gaza Spartan
Bounty Killer has done all sorts of songs throughout his storied career—touching on ghetto life, God, girls, ganja—but he’s always at his best when he’s in war mode. They don’t call him the Warlord for nothing. You know, Peeeeeeeeeeeople dead and all that. Think of all the great songs that came from his rivalry with Beenie Man alone. His new Jazzwad-produced single “Nyammy Lee” spits hot fire at his newest nemesis, Tommy Lee the Gaza Spartan. In other words, it’s classic Bounty Killer. Looks like Sting is gonna be real interesting this year. Let’s just hope they keep the battle lyrical. Audio After The Jump… -
Bounty Killer Hearing Whispers About Tommy Lee
The Warlord Does Not Like What He’s Hearing—Sting Promoters Respond On Twitter
With the diss records flying back and forth and anticipation building about the big clash at this year’s Sting, it seems like fans of Tommy Lee and Bounty Killer are getting overexcited. Earlier today Bounty Killer took to Twitter to speak on whispers he’s hearing from Tommy Lee’s hometown of Montego Bay. It seems that Sparta loyalists are talking reckless about what will happen to the Warlord when he comes to MoBay. It doesn’t help matters that Tommy Lee went on Hype TV and talked about physically attacking Killer on the stage at Sting, just like his mentor Vybz Kartel (and his entourage) did to Ninja Man in 2003. That was an infamous moment in dancehall history that nobody wants to see happen again—least of all the promoters of Sting, who have been struggling to confirm the main attractions for this year’s show. Needless to say they are doing their best to tamp down the hostilities, while still promoting a show that’s known for epic clashes. It’s a fine line to walk. WATCH THIS: Giants of Lovers Rock
Fresh From London: Reshma B Interviews Janet Kay, Carroll Thompson, Peter Hunnigale, and More Reggae may have been born in Jamaica, but these days it’s a worldwide phenomenon. And the first place it spread was toEngland, where Jamaicans abroad created their own unique sound that came to be known as Lovers Rock. One of the first tunes to establish the sound was Louisa Mark’s “Caught You In A Lie” recorded in 1974 when the girl from West London was only a teenager. Smash hits like Janet Kay’s “Silly Games” and Carroll Thompson’s “Hopelessly In Love” kept the excitement building. It was a London thing, soon to be adopted all around the world. Japanese fans idolized the London girls and even the big boys from the Island—including legends like Gregory Isaacs, Dennis Brown, and Sugar Minott—adopted the lovers rock sound. And the movement continues in 2012, with new voices like Lovella Ellis, daughter of the late great Alton Ellis stepping up to keep the legacy alive. On October 27th the IndigO2 hosted the Giants of Lovers Rock Part 4, bringing together some of the finest vocalists in England, singing of love and heartbreak and everything in between. Reshma B served as guest host, and she took us backstage for an all-access tour. What’s not to love? Video Interviews After The Jump… (more…)

Cali Dromeister Links With Hot Coffee Music—This Should Be Interesting
Looks like Gappy Ranks made some new friends while he was rolling through California for his Cookies tour. And it’s no surprise that Gappy and Bobby Hustle hit it off: they have so many shared interests: reggae, ganja, music, and… um, ganja. We’re feeling Bobby’s high-grade flow over Gappy’s “Throw Me Herb” riddim. As a white youth in the bizness, Bobby strikes the perfect balance: chill, street smart, and reggae savvy without Ja-Fakin’. Now that the Dynasty has linked with Hot Coffee music, nuff things are sure to be percolating . They don’t call him Bobby hustle fe nuttin. Video after the jump. (more…) -

WATCH THIS: RDX “Broad Out” Video
Did The Daggering Duo Really Shoot A Music Video With An iPhone?
The dancehall duo who brought you daggering anthems like “Bend Over” and “Daggering” are breaking new ground with their latest video. But don’t worry, they haven’t abandoned the winning formula of high-energy riddims, simple melodic hooks, and hot girls skinning out in outrageous poses. If fact the “broads” in this video are busting crazier moves than ever. But what’s really different about the “Broad Out” video is that they shot the whole thing on an iPhone. Or at least that’s what they claim in the intro to the video. But they still need to explain who shot the shots of them shooting with the blasted iPhone. Oh well, the video still ah shot. (And make sure to watch for the “Too Hot For TV” teaser at the end) Video After The Jump…

WATCH THIS: Reasoning With Mr. Williamz
Reshma B Interviews The UK DJ Who Says He Runs England
Ever since we heard Mr. Williamz shocking out on Green Lion’s “More Spiritual” riddim we were impressed with the way he brought the foundation dancehall style over up-to-date 2012 riddims. Furthermore, we were intrigued by some of the bold claims he made on the track “We Run England,” particularly his anecdote about the Queen giving him a foot massage. So we made a few inquiries and soon Boomshots UK Correspondent Reshma B had the chance to sit down with Mr. Williamz at West London hotspot Beach Blanket Babylon. He kicked an exclusive freestyle, and talked about which part of the world the girls know how to “sit down steady.” Video and Audio After The Jump…
