Daseca’s New Riddim Takes It Back To The “Dancehall Again”

Let me let you in on a little secret: I’m still not sure what the proper term would be for all that other stuff folks have been rocking to in 2010. But Daseca’s new riddim is called “Dancehall Again”—thank goodness—and this time they kept it simple. No Auto-Tune. No pop pretensions. (more…)

  • Reasoning With Lady Saw, Raw & Uncut

Muma Saw Talks Nicki, RiRi, Foxy… And Doing Things “Her Way”

Born in the powerful parish of St. Mary, Marion Hall burst on the Jamaican sound system scene in the early 90s, changing the dancehall game forever with her blend of razor-sharp skills and shameless bedroom bravado. Long before Nicki and RiRi first stepped on a stage, Muma Saw was putting it down raw and uncut. (more…)

Do You Know How It Feels To Be Ricky Blaze? It Feels So Real

Not only did Brooklyn’s own Ricky Blaze come out of nowhere to produce the year’s biggest hit with Gyptian’s smash “Hold Yuh,” he’s also got the next-biggest tune on that riddim, a love song that wins on the strength of apparent sincerity rather than vocal dexterity. (more…)

  • Mr. Vegas Shells Down Boston

The Original Gallis Drops Hits Pon Top Of Hits

Quiet as it’s kept, Mr. Vegas is on a roll right now. From his “Boy Shorts” remix with Teairra Mari to his unofficial remix of Chris Brown’s “Deuces” (which sounds harder than the official one), Mr. Die-Do is in the zone. Earlier this month Vegas passed through a radio showcase for Boston’s Hot 97, where his “Gallis” tune from last year is picking up some spins. But this set was for the true heads. “Nike Air,” “Heads High,” “Pull Up,” “She’s A Ho,” “Hot Wuk”… Catalog, me say. And the man works the stage like a true veteran entertainer. Yes Vegas, yuh Bless fe real!
