HEAR THIS: Stylo G “Move Back”

Live Inna London But Original Yardman

Stylo knows a few things about original dons in the game having soaked up plenty of firsthand experience  from his dad Poison Chang. He knows what it takes to stand amongst the best in the biz and on his new tune ”Move Back” he pays respect to some to the pioneers in the  game. Stylo himself has become somewhat of a pioneer fusing the original dancehall sounds with the sounds of the London underground and now stands at the forefront of the UK dancehall scene, I guess they don’t call him the lyrical badman for nothing. As always Stylo’s put has stammed his signature style on the tune which is catchy as hell. “Come trouble yourself with the London don,” he chats—and for those who are gonna be in the vicinity, tonight Stylo will be unleashing his swag  at  at Rodigan’s Ram Jam Xmas party —which is sure to be, well, rammmm jammmed! Don’t be surprised if this Stylo selection finds its way to the top playlist of your holiday party too! • Will Lady Saw & Macka Battle At Sting?

Will Lady Saw & Macka Battle At Sting?

Twitter War Sets The Stage For Epic Clash At The World’s One-Day Reggae Show

Around this time every year tensions between artists get hotter and hotter—it’s the run up to Sting and the heat is in the air. Looks like it’s about to get fierce. Over the past week or so Lady Saw & Macka Diamond have been sparring on Twitter (click through the gallery above for a raw and uncut recap) and there has been talk of a lyrical clash on the big stage of Sting. This is the second year in a row that Macka has been in this situation. Last year she was caught in a war of words against Spice in the run-up to Sting 2012 and the promoters had billed them both for the headline clash. But then on the big night the clash did not happen. Spice was there—along with a donkey dressed as Macka’s “twin” but Macka herself did not take the stage. She later explained that she had a schedule conflict—but that didn’t stop Macka coming back with an answer song addressing Spice’s donkey stunt. Lady Saw did not attend Sting last year. Her energies where focused on her smash hit single “Heels On,” which was taking over the island. But after hearing Macka’s recent diss track and getting into it on Twitter (see above)  it seems like the Queen of the Dancehall is raring to go. And now that Macka has officially been added to the Sting lineup, the stage is set for a Battle Royale. If Saw’s recent tune “Lef Dancehall” or her performance at the Barclays center in NYC this past labor day weekend is any indication, Mumma Saw ain’t playing around. Saw has said in the past that she would never clash, but it seems Macka has gotten on her nerves. Will the Queen get down and dirty to defend her crown? Will Miss Dye Dye shock the world and stand up to Muma Saw? So many questions—and the only answers are to be found on the big stage at Jamworld. If you can’t make it down to Jamaica this December 26th, don’t worry yourself. You can catch all the action on Pay-Per-View TV or via webstreeam. Just hit up the official BringTheSting site for details.

  • Colonel Josie Wales Pon Radio Lily

Colonel Josie Wales Pon Radio Lily

The Outlaw Rides Through The Strictly Boomshots Show. Jesus Christ—We Nice!

In A$AP Ferg’s smash hit “Shabba,” the Harlem rapper idolizes Shabba for wearing “eight gold rings” and “one gold tooth.” But if the truth be told, it was not Shabba Ranks but his mentor Josie Wales who originated that style of fanciness. Had Josey Wales done nothing more than carry Cocoa Tea to the studio for the first time or introduce a young Shabba  to King Jammys, his place is dancehall history would be secure, and yet this humble musical soldier—whose official rank in the dancehall militia is Colenol— has done all that and much much more. (Although he modestly states that he has had “no career” to date thus far, he’s now working with the team Irish & Chin, so watch out for big things from The Colonel in days to come.) Born Joseph Winston Sterling in St. Mary, Jamaica, Josie Wales took his DJ name from the 1976 Clint Eastwood movie The Outlaw Josey Wales. He built his reputation on Stur Gav sound system alongside foundation DJs like Daddy U Roy, Brigadier Jerry, and Charlie Chaplin, and recorded classic sides for Junjo Lawes’ Volcano label (“Leggo Me Hand“) George Phang’s Power House label (“Undercover Lover“) and King Jammy’s (“Nah Lef Ya.“) By the mid 1980s he was acknowledged as Jamaica’s ruling dancehall artist. And his influence continues to this day. Queen Latifah borrowed one of his signature styles to make her Grammy-winning hit “U.N.I.T.Y.” and Josie’s voice was heard on last year’s smash hit “Sweet Jamaica.” A certified legend from the streets to the sound systems, he is both eloquent and witty in person, so it was both a treat and an honor to welcome him to the Strictly Boomshots show on Radio Lily.   Audio & Video After The Jump…

From the UK to Africa to Jamrock, reggae singers and players of instruments have been beating the drums of freedom for the late great Nelson Mandela.
