  • HEAR THIS: Stylo G Speaks On “Press Up”

UK Yardie Swagmaster Pays Tribute to his Father, Dancehall Legend Poison Chang

Stylo G’s “bringing back the wuk” in a tribute to his father, the late great dancehall star Poison Chang. Stylo’s always had a knack for catchy tunes, but this one sounds like it means more to him than most. So we had to holler at him to find out about the classic bedroom move that’s creating such a fuss. This boy always seems to be in the studio so if he’s playing as hard as he’s working you know some pressing up is going on in between his sheets! Stylo took a break from recording to bless us with another Boomshots exclusive. He spoke about memories of his father when he was growing up in Spanish Town Jamaica. It’s clear how much he misses his dad but also clear how much Chang inspired Stylo’s own musical career. ”I’ve always wanted to remix my dad’s track,” said Stylo, who’s moved to forefront of the UK dancehall scene since the release of his smash hit “Call Me A Yardie.” We’re sure Poison Chang would be proud. Oh, and he also says his dad was all about the ladies—so there’s no question how Stylo got his swag! • WATCH THIS: Cham “Lawless” Video

    This Ain’t No Beach Party

Cham’s “Stripper Pose” video looks like it had to be one of the funnest video shoots ever. Beautiful girls on a beach with big bass cabinets blasting dancehall—what’s not to like? His song “Lawless” video might be on the same Dave Kelly–produced riddim, but the visuals depict totally different situation. It’s a rudeboy tune after all, a block-by-block survey of which neighborhood in Kingston is the maddest and why. We’re talking black bandanas, high-speed chases, outwitting Babylon at every turn. Fasten your seatbelt. Video After The Jump…

  • Is Lady Saw Getting Out Of The Game?

    Say It Ain’t So, Saw!

OMG! Is it really over for Lady Saw?!? They say “All Good Things Must Come To An End,” but we’re hoping this turns out to be one of those rumors that gets cleared up—fast!

Sadly this news does seem to be coming straight from the Queen herself. In a recent radio interview Saw discussed the struggles of life in the dancehall business and specifically the difficulties that she’s had with other female artists. She also discusses her calling from the Almighty and plans for a gospel collaboration with Mavado. (Which actually sounds kinda hot, come to think of it.) But still, why quit now just when she was about to shoot the video for her big single “Heels On,” and with an album of the same name on the way?

It’s not like Saw can’t mash up any dance, stage-show, or clash anytime she feels like it. Could this have anything to do with another recent interview in which Macka Diamond spoke of her issues with Lady Saw? It’s been no secret that Saw’s had her ups and downs with other females in the biz, including Spice & Tanya. But earlier this Summer, when Saw was crowned Queen of the Dancehall, she made a point of showing love for the other ladies in the business. How soon they forget. Interview After The Jump… (more…)

  • Vybz Kartel Is Granted J$500,000 Bail

Despite The Judge’s Decision, The Werlboss Is Still Not Free

After hitting major setbacks and having his trial postponed for next year, things are finally looking up for Vybz Kartel.

Well, on at least one of his two murder charges, that is.

Today, Justice Bertram Morrison approved a bail application that was previously filed by the Werlboss’s father-and-son attorney duo, Tom and Christian Tavares-Finson. The J$500,000 bail (approximately $5,500 U.S.) was granted on the case Kartel is fighting for the murder of Barrington Burton, a businessman from St. Catherine, Jamaica. That case will be heard December 3, but Kartel is still not a free man. Find Out Why After The Jump… (more…)

  • HEAR THIS: Busy Signal “Come Shock Out”

Nuff Respect to the Turf Hi Power… Music Every Minute Every Hour

Considering all that he’s been through lately, Busy sounds happy just to be back in the studio. This particular tune is all about the sheer joy of spitting lyrics. Flinging down classic foundation styles “to make you dance pon yuh toe,” Busy touches on key topics like Selassie’s 1966 visit to Jamaica, burning out badmind and obeah, and dashing another fire on the one Lucifer. After underscoring the importance of fresh armpits and a clean heart, Busy goes on to big up the godfather Rodney Price,  and shouts out a diverse range of artists ranging from Tiger to Bongo Herman, Dean Fraser, Tippa Lee & Rappa Robert, and Sugar Minott “the sprinter-stayer long-distance runner.” Sounds like another #CertifiedBoomshot from Jukeboxx Jamaica.  Audio After The Jump…

  • WATCH THIS: BRNGTN “Anytime” Video

She’s Gotta Have It… By All Means Necessary

Last time we checked in with BK-rapper BRNGTN he was pouring out his heart asking God for help with life’s big issues. This time around he’s banging on the door asking a pretty young thing for sex. Musically BRNGTN sticks with the same approach: blending hip-hop flows and rugged reggae instrumentals—in this case the mighty Stalag riddim. At the end of the day this video turns into another case of “be careful what you wish for.” Video After The Jump…

  • Busy Signal & His Mother Discuss His Troubled Past And Future Plans

Busy Signal and Velma Gordon, sit down with Winford Williams of OnstageTV

Going to jail is hard enough but having to leave your family behind is even worse. Unfortunately for Dancehall artist, Busy Signal, he had to undure all of that for more than a decade. Accused of running from a 2002 drug charge, Busy was sentenced to prison time in Minnesota on May 21 while he awaited his judgement day. But six months later instead receiving a hefty bid of seven years, Busy was released due to his good works over the past ten years. As soon as he set foot out of jail, Busy returned to Jamaica to give his first press conference and of course get back to his music. This weekend Busy and his mother, Velma Gordon, sat down with Winford Williams of OnStageTV to discuss his time in prison and on the run, how she felt while he was gone, the affect on his music and what is to come for Busy in the future. Videos After The Jump….
