  • HEAR THIS: Tanto Metro & Devonte “Bubble”

The DanceHall Duo Taps The Originators Sly & Robbie For Their Latest

Having already given us hits like “Everyone Falls In Love Sometime” and “Give It To Her“(which is still played in dances to this day) Tanto Metro & Devonte sets to add another hit to their ever-growing list. Produced by the legendary team of Sly & Robbie, Tanto Metro & Devonte’s latest part cut entitled “Bubble” transports you back to a time of when Dancehall was exactly what the name implies, hitting the dancehall after a hard work week for a couple Red Stripes and if you’re lucky you might even get a nice young lady to bubble on you. • WATCH THIS: Sean Paul Talks “Tomahawk Technique” And Hits Back At Haters

Dutty Paul Speaks On The International Response To His Latest Album—And Brushes Off The Backlash
Backstage at the NYC release party for his 5th album, “Tomahawk Technique,” Dutty Paul took time out to reason with the Reggae Girl About Town. Sean has sold more albums in his career than 99% of the rest of the dancehall fraternity combined. But as we all know, great success often comes with a side order of hate. Some longtime fans have complained that his new album blends international pop sounds and production to his usual dancehall recipe. But Sean defends his work here, saying it’s all part of his campaign to take dancehall to the next level. Sean Paul also talks about working with Kelly Rowland, looks forward to mashing up this weekend’s Notting Hill Carnival, and explains what motivated his Twitter rant. (more…)

  • HEAR THIS: Bonafide ft. Damian Marley “Start N Stop”

Las Vegas Based Reggae Group Tangles With Gongzilla

“Reaching out to humanity at large,” says Damian Marley near the end of this tasty one-drop tune, “Big Gongzilla in charge.” Or is he? Gong’s blustery bravado notwithstanding, this deceptively simple song is all about people stubbornly sticking to their own point of view. One thing’s for sure—the track is anchored by rock-solid live instrumentation courtesy of this Mobay-by-way-of-Vegas rhythm section. Yet there’s no denying that Gongzilla takes it over the top, peppering the pot as only a champion DJ can do. The bristling banter between Bonafide lead vocalist Jr. Rootz and Gongzilla lends “Start N Stop” a humorous tone that gives way to more thought-provoking, universal issues such as mankind’s apparent inability to cooperate. “You keep on doing the same old thing, I keep on making the same mistakes—so we keep on getting nowhere. Move on for goodness sake.” Check this tune for greatness sake. Once it starts you won’t want it to stop.

Spragga Benz, Tarrus Riley, I-Octane Featured On The Brand New Juggling From 21st Hapilos

Johnny Wonder and our peoples at 21st Hapilos just dropped their own production today, and it’s full of #CertifiedBoomshots. The riddim is called SWA (Sleep With Angels) and it’s anchored by Spragga Benz, who once did a tune by the same name in honor of his dearly departed son Carlyle. Spragga’s come back with a brand new song for the SWA juggling, but the meds is just as deep. I-Octane also chips in with a conscious tune. Tarrus “Singy Singy” Riley delivers a song about standing—rather than falling—in love. There’s nuff more artists on the riddim, but you can preview a few of our favorites after the jump. (more…)

  • Happy Birthday Bogle

Mr. Wacky Is Gone But His Dancing Lives On

His name first got big thanks to Buju Banton’s 92 smash “Bogle,” but over the years people learned that “Bogle” was not just a dance, but a human dancehall phenomenon. Simply put, no other dancer has had a greater impact on dancehall culture than Gerald “Bogle” Levy. Shortly after making his transition to recording artist, the longtime member of the Black Roses Crew was gunned down shortly after leaving the popular dance Weddy Weddy Wednesdays. On the day he would have turned 48 Boomshots celebrates his life and legacy. Fashion over style. (more…)

  • Interview: Mavado Talks We The Best Projects, “Suicidal” Video, Shuts Down Haters & Shouts Out Vybz Kartel

The Gully Gad Reasons With Reshma B In This Boomshots Exclusive

Last week we got our first look at Mavado’s latest video, “So Suicidal” off DJ Khaled’s new album, Kiss The Ring. Tonight at 6pm, the Gully Gad will appear with Khaled and a bunch of other hip-hop stars on BET’s 106 & Park, then he’ll jet back to Miami, where he’s been working on some collabos with Birdman—not to mention Fabolous, Busta Rhymes, French Montana, and the list goes on. Why is he grinding so hard since signing with We The Best Music Group? As one of the few dancehall artists in the game with a major label deal, Mavado feels as though he’s carrying an entire genre on his back right now. And even though he’s been away from home while he handles his biz, trust and believe that Jamaica is never far from his thoughts. The Reggae Girl About Town caught up with Mavado last night for an exclusive half-hour interview, and he had a lot on his mind. And you’ll never guess which fellow dancehall artist he keeps in his prayers.

If anything, that one sounds even sicker than “Suicide.”
