Lady Chann Drops Big Bombs Like She Name Bagdad
You already know!! Spitting lyrics like fire as usual, Chann’s latest tune, “I Duppy Riddim” is a mash-up of London’s underground scene—dancehall with a bit of jungle, D&B, grime and everything in the middle. In short, Chann’s signature style. Since getting her start with London’s Suncycle crew she’s been throwing out cuts like “Your Eye Too Fast,” “Feel Calm” and “Sticky Situation” and collaborating with the likes of Sticky, Toddla T, Durrty Goodz, Manga, Gappy Ranx, Skibadee and Beenie Man. Now, on the heels of her Dun Dem Season Trilogy mixtape the Norweezy native teams up with producer Benny Page on the I Duppy Riddim released on her own label, Dun Dem Records. The tune officially drops July 6 but it’s already getting rinsed on the radio and now there’s eye-popping video. Never afraid to say what’s on her mind, Chann speaks the truth in her tunes. Tracks like “Eye too fast” show she’s not scared to call a guy out on his bad behaviour. Rodigan Invites A Few Friends Over to Get Things Poppin’ in LondonTown
Vauxhall’s Fire was burnin’ up last Friday night as David Rodigan played host to his annual RamJam Xmas bash. The lineup of DJs and artists included some of the names that have paved the way for the UK underground scene from yesterday until tomorrow and beyond. The crowd went crazy to a mixture of music that has been the soundtrack of the London streets over the past few years—including jungle, DnB, reggae, dancehall & dubstep and everything in between. Jungle masters Congo Natty were on great form, set the night alight with their selections. They started their set with Bob Marley’s acoustic “Redemption Song,” and trust & believe that was the calm before the storm ahead as they launched into a mix of jungle & DnB classics. UK dancehall artist Stylo G stepped onto stage and got the room singing to “Call Me a Yardie” and “Soundbwoy”—they even knew the lyrics to his new tune “Move Back.” David Rodigan dropped bombs throughout his set—the man’s collection of dubplates has been next level for years, but then he dropped a brand new exclusive dub for Cham and Damian Marley’s first ever combination, a thing called “Fighter.” By the time Shy FX hit the decks the room was in a frenzy. If you ain’t heard of her already then note the name. From up norf in BUR-MING-UM (Birmingham) UK, The pint-sized lady was the only female repping on the Bass culture discussion which panel explored the influence of reggae on the UK underground scene. “Sorry I weren’t around during that time” she told the panel moderator, former Steel Pulse member Mykaell Riley, when he asked her about something all them years back. Of course she don’t, but the young lady who got her earliest inspiration from Sister Nancy sure knows how to spit. Her take on Chris Brown and Busta’s “Look At Me Now” has notched half a million views—and props from Nicki Minaj among others. Now she says she’s ready to battle Busta! (more…)
