Tari & Konshens Can’t Be Played

Everybody loves a sexy dance tune or a sweet love song. But what about bitter breakups? It’s no fun but it sure makes for good some good music. The video for Tari’s latest single, “Karma,” shows the ladies that they can’t be messed with. “Now I bet you think this song is all about you and me getting you out of my life,” Konshens says on his verse. “But really this song is to let all the girls know that I’m single starting tonight.” Ouch. • WATCH THIS: Bramma “Bad” Video

    The Guerilla Anthem

Stephen McGregor’s “Face Off” riddim is loaded with bad man tunes, and one of the toughest is Bramma’s cut, simply titled “Bad.” BiggzShip just dropped the visual interpretation and it’s filled with black masks and itchy trigger fingers. Say your prayers. Video After The Jump…

  • WATCH THIS: Bobby Hustle “Weed Like Mine” Video

Cali Dromeister Links With Hot Coffee Music—This Should Be Interesting

Looks like Gappy Ranks made some new friends while he was rolling through California for his Cookies tour. And it’s no surprise that Gappy and Bobby Hustle hit it off: they have so many shared interests: reggae, ganja, music, and… um, ganja. We’re feeling Bobby’s high-grade flow over Gappy’s “Throw Me Herb” riddim. As a white youth in the bizness, Bobby strikes the perfect balance: chill, street smart, and reggae savvy without Ja-Fakin’. Now that the Dynasty has linked with Hot Coffee music, nuff things are sure to be percolating . They don’t call him Bobby hustle fe nuttin. Video after the jump. (more…)

  • HEAR THIS: Bunji Garlin “Differentology”

Di Gyul Dem Dahlin Unleashes Something Different For The Carnival Season

Bunji takes well, a different route on his latest appropriately titled single “Differentology.” We hear the “Gyul Dem Dahlin” spit the usual Carnival fare over a Sheriff Music/J-Rod Records track with additional instrumentation by Nigel Rojas. We like the direction Bunji is headed, perhaps he can be the pioneer of the neo-soca movement and have it reach a more global audience. You ready? Hit the jump to listen. (more…)

  • WATCH THIS: Protoje “Kingston Be Wise” Video

Diggy Drops The Visual Interpretation of His Hard-Hitting New Single

The first time we heard Protoje’s new single from the forthcoming LP The 8 Year Affair, we knew it was something special. Now that we’ve seen the official video—directed by Mikey Tumbleweed—all our suspicions have been confirmed: Diggy deh pon some next-level meds right now. I mean, how many singles come with a link to download the lyrics, the artwork and a short story—by the original Dutty Bookman no less? But we digress. Pree the video and you’ll understand what the excitement is about. Video after the jump…

  • HEAR THIS: Carly Rae Jepsen “Call Me Maybe” Reggae Remix

Jon FX Flips A Thirsty Pop Tune Into a Ska Scorcher

As many millions of times as we’ve all heard “Call Me Maybe” by now, it’s amazing that the song doesn’t make us run screaming from the room whenever it comes on. But we don’t because Carly Rae Jepsen has given us one of the most irresistibly thirsty pop songs in recent memory. There’s something sexy and poignant about a cute and slightly insecure girl handing a random guy her number on impulse. Simple as it is, somehow the song’s premise never gets old. In fact, Carly Rae Jepsen may be the most promising third-place-winner on Canadian Idol ever. What makes “Call Me Maybe” grate on people’s nerves isn’t the song itself, it’s the backing track—especially those annoyingly cheesy synth chords. Which is why we all owe Jon FX a debt of gratitude. Like the BK-based beatsmith’s “Birthday Sex” remix before it, this ska reworking of “Call Me Maybe” is guaranteed 100% less annoying than the original. And that makes life a little bit better. Actually a lot. Audio After The Jump…

  • HEAR THIS: Mavado “Special Kinda Gyal”

Every Gangster Needs The Right Girl

Shabba put it straight when he said “happiness is a tight punany.” It must be true cause young gentlemen sing that to every kinda beat. The latest release from Di Genius is no exception. This one’s dedicated to the Gully Gad’s bad gyal. Sounds like she’s gotta be real bad—bad like the carnival. But more importantly she’s gotta know how to bend over and please him, and never leave him. Clearly he knows what he wants. Some guys think they want a bad girl but when they get one they cry about it. But just know that being a gangster’s special kinda gyal is no joke, and if you’re thinking you want to sign up for the challenge know what you’re gonna be in for. But something tells me if you make it to the finish line he’ll return the favor real good. • HEAR THIS: Lisa Hyper “Money Don’t Sleep”

Tun Up The Price Of Ku-Kum-Kum Too

You’ve got to respect a gold-digger who claims her title proudly. Take Lisa Hyper for example. She’s not ashamed to defend the money. How do you think she got that Ph bloodbath D? She and Platinum Camp took a little piece of Kanye West and a touch of one of our favorite Mad Cobra classics, and they concocted a new kind of female empowerment anthem for all the triflin’ witches go-getter girls who gotta have that money by all means necessary. You go girl. Audio after the jump…

  • HEAR THIS: Elephant Man & Beenie Man “We Nah Tek Bad Up”

Elly & Beenie’s Latest Release Hits Harder Than Hurricane Sandy

You know those soothing songs that increase your sense of inner peace and make you feel like life is good and all your troubles are a thing of the past? Well this is not one of those songs. Elly and Beenie got with Suku to build one of the wickedest bad man tunes to come this way in a hot minute. Sample lyric: “We ah plant bullet inna head like we do farming.” Get the picture? OK—good. • WATCH THIS: I-Octane & Bounty Killer “Badmind Dem a Pree” Video

The Tune Did Mad But The Visuals Madder

Octane links with the Warlord to blaze a righteous fire, play a few rounds of poker, double-cross the scheming illuminati dudes, and hand them a briefcase full of CDs. Still puzzling about the significance of that briefcase full of CDs though. (Was he expecting dubplates?) Video After The Jump…

  • HEAR THIS: Sadiki “Jah Is The Only King”

Singer Hails The King of Kings
Sadiki is one of those best-kept-secret-type singers. He may not have the biggest name in the game, but if you’ve been paying attention you know his records speak for themselves. Blending a staccato singjay attack and soaring melodies, Sadiki’s got what it takes to rock the mike right. His “Gal Them Everytime” was one of the standout tracks on Tony Kelly’s hit-packed Buyout Riddim, and his Japanese-only Sound Killarchy CD is one the strongest soundboy-killing albums of recent years. So it was a treat to find this tasty new spiritual cut in our inbox. A few more tunes like this and Sadiki will be a secret no more.  Audio After The Jump…

  • WATCH THIS: Mavado “Caribbean Girls” Video

The Gully Gad Pays Tribute To All The Lovely Ladies of the Caribbean—But Which Island Is His Favorite?

One of Jamaica’s favorite singers has given us another single to wine to. And from the sounds of it, it’s bound to be another hit. Mavado has been through the Caribbean a few times, and he knows which girls known how to wine the best—even if he is banned from a few of those countries now and then! His newest single, “Caribbean Girls,” on JA Productions’ Overtime riddim, is one of the standout cuts on Mavado’s latest mixtape, So Suicidal, which dropped earlier this month. If you like the tune then you’ll love the visuals. It’s all about the girls—as usual—but not the ones who take the Gully Gad’s money and leave him lonely. Video After The Jump… (more…)
