Fuse ODG Talks Collabs with Konshens, Elephant Man & Wyclef Jean

“We’re All One People” Says the UK Afrobeat Artist Who’s On A Mission To Make World Music

UK based Afro-Beat artist Fuse ODG recently sat down with Reshma B to discuss his recent collaborations with Jamaican dancehall stars Konshens and Elephant Man, and the Haitian-American superstar Wyclef Jean. Fuse, whose manager happens to be Jamaican, talks about how he linked up with Konshens for his “Million Pound Girl” Remix and how he tapped Di Energy God for the remix of his dance single “Azonto” But perhaps his biggest collabo to date is the remix of “Antenna” feature Wycelf. “That Fuse ODG, they don’t even know that in America. That’s over 8 million hits on YouTube and it’s No. 1 in the world charts and all of that,” Wyclef told Boomshots. “African music is no stranger to me. I’m all about fusion and now what’s coming out of Africa is actually making it back to America. The kids are definitely influenced by a lot of dancehall, a lot of reggae, and now a lot of dance music, so all of this fusion is coming together.”  Fuse also hopes to collaborate with Sean Paul in the future. “We’re All One People,” says the artist whose parents immigrated from Ghana to England. “To make world music—that’s the mission.” Video After The Jump…

We Requested It, And Now Ferg Delivers The Big Dutty Stinkin’ Reeeeeeemix

From the moment we heard the Trap Lord goin’ in about the Dancehall Emperor, we knew there was just one way to make this tune better. And when we saw the Ranks up in the video, we started thinking maybe it was about to happen. But when RGAT chopped it up with Ferg and mentioned the idea of doing a remix with the Rankin, Ferg seemed lukewarm on the idea. But we kept patiently waiting until we almost gave up hope and then, this weekend—pow! And not Shabba but BussaBuss and Migos too! Thank you Trap Lord. Audio After The Jump…

    Here Comes The Boom

While we eagerly await Mr. Vegas Feat. Sean Paul and Fatman Scoop’s official video for their tune “Party Tun Up (Remix) we take a look back at one of Vegas and Paul’s previous Hip Hop collaborations from the classic Hype Williams directed “Belly.” The dog himself DMX roped in Vegas and Paul for the 1998 hit “Top Shotter” (commonly known as “Here Comes The Boom”) to create one of the best hip hop/dancehall crossover records ever. X’s gritty wordplay paired with Vegas and Sean’s attacking lyrics act as a perfect backdrop to Hype’s visuals. Video After The Jump… (more…)

    Slim Shady Shells Down Amsterdam

Last weekend at the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam, the stars came out for the 20th annual MTV EMAs. The European version of MTV’s Video Music Awards has never been bigger, with artists like Miley Cyrus, Iggy Azalea, and Bruno Mars as well as global acts like Icona Pop, Dizzee Rascal and the latest UK sensation, Rudimental. But the biggest star of all was a last-minute addition to the lineup. One day before the awards, Eminem was added to the show, hot on the heels of his MMLP2 release. Reshma B hit  the red carpet to find out what the other nominees and performers think about Slim Shady. She even caught up with legendary anchorman Ron Burgundy, whose favorite Eminem song is somewhat debatable. Video After The Jump…

TDE’s Next To Blow Brings the Ruckus… Boom!

Boomshots only fux with certain hip-hop records, but the first time we heard Schoolboy Q’s “Banger” it felt like a soundbwoy killer. The bucket-hat-wearing madman from the Top Dawg Entertainment fam gets rough rugged and raw over a track by tHe renegades track that’s punctuated with reggae-matic drumrolls. Much like the record, the stark black and white video, directed by Jerome D, is all killer no filler. No telling exactly what SBQ’s puffin on, but judging by his reckless behavior it must be some of that extra-wacky Cali tobacky.  Video After The Jump…

Boot Camp Vets Stand Firm With Mr. “One Blood”

In the past couple of months, a wave of reggae collaborations has surfaced across genres of music—from the lover’s rock of Shaggy’s “You Girl” featuring Ne-Yo to A$AP Ferg saluting “Shabba Ranks” to Nicki Minaj and Busta Rhymes providing dance lessons with “Twerk It” to Selena Gomez trying to walk “Like A Champion” in Buju Banton’s footsteps. Some collaborations represent sheer genius while others lean on loud yelling and Ja-fakin’ accents. The best usually feature a reggae artist’s vocals, giving the tracks authenticity. Case in point: Boot Camp Clik’s Smif N Wessun (General Steele & Tek) have paid homage to reggae music ever since their inception. Their classic “Sound Bwoy Bureill,” from their 1995 debut album, Dah Shinin, painted on a canvas of echoes from old-school dancehall verbal artillery. The verbal brushstrokes of Fuzzy Jones’s  intro and Smif N’ Wessun’s use of Jamaican patois-infused rap, create a masterpiece of hip-hop reggae fusion that could only have been birthed in Brooklyn. This warning was also sampled on Kanye West smash hit, “Mercy” in 2012. “Sound Bwoy Buriell” also features lyrics from Buju Banton’s “Boom Bye Bye” making it a BoOM tune by far! Video After The Jump…

And Now For Some Next Level Shit

Ever since we heard that big Mavado & Nicki tune on the Overdrive riddim, visions of an ill video have been dancing in our heads. Well the Gully Gaad stopped by BET’s 106 & Park today with DJ Khaled to premiere tbe video and it’s every bit as jiggy as we imagined it would be. Expensive whips? Check. Jamaican flags? Check. Wining pon headtop? Check. Multiple wig colors? Check.  (Justus we see you!) OK so maybe the trailer suggested that this Grizz Lee epic might have a bit more of a plot, but why quibble?  The tune is on point and Stulla + Barbz = a good look for dancehall overall. The only bad part is that Roach isn’t here to enjoy it all. Video After The Jump… (more…)

Boom Shocka-Lock Boom Budy Bye Bye Bye

Kendrick Lamar of Tog Dawg Entertainment has already expressed his desire to musically murder all competition. Now his TDE bredren Schoolboy Q is back with a beat produced by tHe renegades and mixed By Ali that’s fit for soundbwoy killing. Q gets right in the mood, licking lyrical shots as the militant drum rolls crank up the tension. This is the hardest thing we’ve heard from SBQ yet, and he makes it perfectly clear that “that bullshit” can go down in any town. How’s that sound? Audio After The Jump…
