    No Inna No Long Talking

In this summer of dancehall/pop fusion, everybody seems to be jumping on the reggae bandwagon—with mixed results. Born in Jamaica and raised in New York City, K’Coneil makes music that reflects this blend of cultures organically without feeling forced or contrived. The latest single off his debut EP, LOVE/LUST, is an R&B/dancehall cut called “Feels So Right” produced by New Yorker DJ Calli B. “I wanted to make a feel-good song that spoke about a relationship that just felt great and didn’t require any effort it was just easy and natural,” says the artist. “All the stars aligned and it’s just a perfect match ‘made in heaven.’” Today Boomshots proudly premieres the music video for the track, directed by Zurisaddair, which was shot in Coney Island and Times Square with choreography by the International Danca Family. Like K’Coneil, it’s a perfect blend. Video After The Jump…

HEAR THIS: Kranium x Tory Lanez “We Can”

From Toronto To Queens Pum Pum Reigns Supreme

A half-Bajan R&B/hip hop artist from Toronto who’s been doing his thing for a few years now, Tory Lanez has recently begun exploring Caribbean sounds. When Tory’s “LUV,” a reworking of Tanto Metro & Devonte’s worldwide dancehall hit “Everyone Falls In Love,” was described as “Terrible” by OVO stalwart Boi 1da, Tory proceeded to remix Drake’s “Controlla” in a fairly murderous fashion and tweeted that he was “bout to have Jamaica on fire.” Today he drops “We Can,” a sexed-up combination with Kranium which sounds more like Kranium jumping on a Tory Lanez #Swavey R&B track than vice versa. Still their icy machismo nicely complements this gauzy beat from Sak Pase and DJ Marley Waters as two young players pledge allegiance to the pum pum. Audio After The Jump… (more…)

Nothing Beats A Fly Chick In A Fast Whip

We first noticed K’Coneil when he dropped “Me One,” a humorous counteraction to Dexta Daps’ “7Eleven.” Since then the MoBay-born singer who attended college in the U.S.—and once sang at Madison Square Garden as part of a contemporary gospel group—has carved out his own lane within the music space, with a “genre fluid” style that’s sure to catch the ear of the wide world as he prepares his debut EP for release this year. While Seanizzle’s popular “90s Don Dada” riddim (distributed by the might 21st Hapilos Digital) is technically a “throwback” within modern dancehall, KC’s excursion on the version is 100% fast forward. “As a blend of Sean Paul and Usher, I see K’Coneil as the promissory voice of the future,” says the producer. “His dancehall flavor mixed with the pop yet edgy appeal is one that makes you want to dig a little deep and hear more.” Always on the lookout to champion the best and brightest new stars on the horizon, Boomshots proudly premieres the whiptastic video for “Hot Like You.” From the moment those Lambo doors lift up you know you’re in for something special. WATCH THIS: Lady Saw “Summer Love” Official Music Video PREMIERE

Muma Saw Gets Her Groove Back

You already know whenever Muma Saw drops a track it’s going to be hot. But this Summer Saw is on fire. When the first line of a tyne is “I wanna fall deeply in love”…soon followed by “I wanna get so damn drunk!”—well, you get the picture. “This summer me ah touch ‘pon the beach” Saw spits on her latest track. “A new boyfriend me ah cop fe the summer.” After all the catfights, clashes, heartbreaks, and high-heel shoes, she’s just trying to exhale and show she’s still the baddest B in business. It seems like Saw is on some YOLO vibes at the moment. Listeners rarely have to do much reading in-between the lines with Saw’s lyrics and this song is no exception. Let’s just say the Queen of the Dancehall is out and about and she don’t care who knows it. Oh, and the summer heat has got her needing a new man in between the sheets. Saw proudly shows off her her beach bod in the video, surrounded by some very fit semi-naked males or effortlessly chilling in the sunset with the likes of the new legendary duo Bounty and Beenie. #NotMad Video After The Jump… (more…)

“I Wear My Benz Punany with Confidence”

Jamaican-Canadian Pop Star Reconnects With Her Dancehall Roots

Kreesha Turner’s debut album Passion was an instant smash in her native Canada. Back in 2008 her single “Don’t Call Me Baby” became the most played song on Canadian radio and hit number one on Billboard‘s U.S. Hot Dance Club Play. Nominated for “Best New Artist” and “Best Pop Album of The Year” at that year’s Juno Awards, her future seemed all mapped out for her. But there is another side to this perfect pop princess, a girl who grew up between Edmonton, Canada and Spanish Town, Jamaica. “Before I got signed I was in the underground hip-hop scene, and everything I did was a mixture of dancehall, hip-hop, and R&B,” she explained to the Reggae Girl About Town over lunch at Strawberry Hill. “When I got signed, the label took me all the way opposite to what I was. They got me to start straightening my hair. I went to media training and they told me not to speak in Jamaican dialect.” Now managed by Nick Cannon and signed to Universal Republic, Kreesha’s third album brings her full circle, diving into the dancehall, hip-hop and R&B sounds she loves. Her first single, “Sexy Gal,” features the Jamaican dancehall supergroup T.O.K. Watch for the official music video premiere March 31 on Mass Appeal. In the meantime, check out Reshma B’s exclusive interview, and enjoy the view! Video After The Jump… (more…)
