HEAR THIS: Andre Xcellence “Ram It Up” PREMIERE

The Turn Up Was The Old Wave—Now It’s Time to Ram It Up!

Andre Xcellence is a reckless Trini youth based in Los Angeles whose daily agenda includes “Shuttin’ down the club, even bringin’ Ballys back.” To be honest we just heard about him yesterday but he had us from the moment he flipped Super Cat’s “Don Dada” hook over a frenetic Supakuma-produced track that sounds something like Diwali on steroids. With a lyrical flow that’s more rap than reggae, Xcellence shouts out Charlie Sheen and displays a zero-phuxx-given sense of humor: “I don’t want you to limbo low / I want you to bounce like a Backpage bimbo” etc… Definitely not suited for the conscious Rasta crowd, “Ram It Up” gets a Boomshots premieres simply because the energy is undeniable. If you’re in the mood to “celebrate like we just won a gold cup” you need this tune in your life.  Audio After The Jump… (more…)

HEAR THIS: Kendrick Lamar ft. Assassin “The Blacker The Berry”

K Dot Links Sasco On A Revolutionary Record

Assassin aka Agent Sasco is your favorite rapper’s favorite dancehall star. First Kanye West enlisted him to drop bars on the standout Yeezus track, “I’m In It.” Yesterday the consensus pick for best rapper alive dropped a new track from the forthcoming (and highly anticipated) follow-up to his classic 2012 album good kid, m.A.A.d city. The song’s a lyrical tour-de-force of course, touching on racism, mental slavery, violence and hypocrisy. It’s thrilling to hear two of the world’s greatest doing what they do best, coming together across cultural and geographical lines through the art of riding riddims. Of course, it would have been even more thrilling if Assassin were credited for the feature, but Boomshots went ahead and gave him that on the strength cause it’s only right. Audio After The Jump…

TDE’s Next To Blow Brings the Ruckus… Boom!

Boomshots only fux with certain hip-hop records, but the first time we heard Schoolboy Q’s “Banger” it felt like a soundbwoy killer. The bucket-hat-wearing madman from the Top Dawg Entertainment fam gets rough rugged and raw over a track by tHe renegades track that’s punctuated with reggae-matic drumrolls. Much like the record, the stark black and white video, directed by Jerome D, is all killer no filler. No telling exactly what SBQ’s puffin on, but judging by his reckless behavior it must be some of that extra-wacky Cali tobacky.  Video After The Jump…

Boom Shocka-Lock Boom Budy Bye Bye Bye

Kendrick Lamar of Tog Dawg Entertainment has already expressed his desire to musically murder all competition. Now his TDE bredren Schoolboy Q is back with a beat produced by tHe renegades and mixed By Ali that’s fit for soundbwoy killing. Q gets right in the mood, licking lyrical shots as the militant drum rolls crank up the tension. This is the hardest thing we’ve heard from SBQ yet, and he makes it perfectly clear that “that bullshit” can go down in any town. How’s that sound? Audio After The Jump…

OK so… the same day Mrs. Carter tells the world to “Bow Down,” Jay and Kendrick decide to roll out this official BDKMB RMX? Overkill? You bet. Too much ain’t enough, apparently. “Lookin’ to be the God MC,” K-Dot rhymes, “Look at my hat and see thorns there. Look at the game and see porn there.” Yeah Kendrick fucks with it hard. And Jay does what he does, presenting his verse from the Bombardier Challenger 850 that B gave him for Father’s Day. “Up in the clouds, me and my spouse.” And yeah that turbulence in the air might just be a touch of competitive juices flowing.
