Tessanne Lays Down The Law On the Fight This Feeling Juggling

Now that the Shaggy and Beres selection “Fight This Feeling” is a certified modern classic, the good folks at Ranch Entertainment had the good sense to release a full juggling pon the Sly & Robbie riddim, first deployed on Dennis Brown’s “Sitting and Watching.” There are some nice cuts on here, but the one we’ve got stuck on repeat is by Tessanne Chin, who’s currently tearing shit up on NBC’s The Voice even though reggae lovers have known about her voice for years. Singing like the grown woman she is Tessanne calls out a trifling man who’s showing signs that he’s taking her for granted, or even worse, playing her for a fool. Listen up fellas.  Audio After The Jump…

Who Says Gyptian Only Makes Love Songs

Known for his soulful voice, most would expect a Gyptian mixtape to be full of nothing but love songs or songs dedicated to women in general; not that there’s anything wrong with that. Love is a beautiful thing, and some would argue that music is “all about the girls.” On his just released “Sex, Love & Reggae” mix Gyptian makes sure to drop something for all reggae lovers, but the real treat is that Gyptian choose to pair his soothing voice over some classic riddims. Add this to your Hump Day playlist and thank us later. Stream And Download After The Jump… (more…)

Old Time Supm Come Back Again
    christopher-ellis-Boomshots

After shelling down Miss Lilys and SOBs last week, the Ghetto Youths crew has made it clear to everybody  that they aren’t just talking about good music, they’re really putting good music out there. On Labor Day Monday Wayne Marshall, Christopher Ellis, Jo Mersa & Black Am I came together to lock down the Strictly Boomshots show on Radio Lily, only to then walk down the road and rip the stage at SOBs where they were joined by original Ghetto Youths co-founders Damian, Julian & Stephen Marley. If you made it to either spot you might still be buzzin’ from the excitement—and if you’re in the UK September 28, you can catch Chris doing his thing at the Jazz Cafe—but either way you won’t be mad to take a listen to the latest number by Christopher Ellis. Produced by Jr Gong it’s the new addition to Chris’s growing catalog, putting his sweet harmonies to a vintage beat and bringing a fresh take to some real classic reggae music. Something “Better Than Love” is in the air, so good even @EllisMuzicChild cant put his finger on it—but it sure sounds good!  Audio After The Jump…

Treat Yourself To Lovers Rock At Its Finest
    Tessanne+Chin+TESSANNE

Smart Move Productions’ “I Believe” Riddim is a  rich, melodic, home-cooked one-drop track that bubbles like soup in a pot. In other words it’s the perfect backdrop for one of reggae’s sultriest voices to do what she does better than just about anybody. “The skies could be falling,” Tessanne sings, “the mountains come tumbling down, the rivers are running wild, and the seas could overrun.” Yes. Listening to her voice, we get the feeling that Tessanne loves truly madly deeply. And we could listen to her all day. In fact, maybe we will. Audio After The Jump…

  • HEAR THIS: Shaggy ft. Ne-Yo “You Girl”

Mr. Boombastic Links With The Perfect Gentlemen, And It’s All About The Girls—As Usual
    ShaggyNeYoBoom

Shaggy’s really pulling out all the stops for his new classical roots reggae album with riddims laid down by Sly & Robbie and production by Sting International and Lenky. First he gave us “Can’t Fight This Feeling” featuring Beres Hammond. Now he’s just dropped a sweet lover’s rock selection called “You Girl” featuring R&B star Ne-Yo. It’s nice to hear a U.S. singer sounding so comfortable with the one-drop groove. Looks like Shaggy has another hit on his hands. And having heard most of the album, we can confirm there’s a lot more where that came from. Audio After The Jump…

Miss Maddy Carly is a graduate of Leeds College of Music who attended the BRIT School at age 14. (Graduates of BRIT include Adele, Amy Winehouse, Leona Lewis, Katy B, and Rizzle Kicks.) So what’s a nice girl like that doing hanging out in West London at Peckings Studio 1 record shop? Well it just so happens that this prestigiously pedigreed young singer/songwriter has recorded a blazing new tune with Chris Peckings called “Get It Right” over a classic Skatalites instrumental. The tune is so sweet it’s now being distributed by Red Star Sounds and an official music video is in the works. You know that Peckings formula: old school, new blood. This time they definitely got it right.  Video after the jump… (more…)

    MAXI-P1

Maxi Priest has dropped a video for his smooth romantic jam “Easy to Love.” The song kind of gives me a Jodeci R&B feel (for all you ’80s babies out there). Although some claim Maxi has lost his spark, I believe he’s back! In this track—co-written by P-dub and produced by Fat Eyes on the same riddim as Beres Hammond’s “In My Arms”—Maxi reminds us exactly why he was once dubbed “The King of Lover’s Rock.”  Check it out and judge for yourself. Reggae quintet Morgan Heritage unloads a fresh visual for their latest single entitled “Perfect Love Song” off their highly anticipated “Here Come The Kings” album set to hit shelves June 11th. Shot in the picturesque Little Haiti neighborhood of Miami, the video which premiered on Ebony.com caught the attention of some You Tube commenters who made a note at the lack of melanin in the video cast.
