    Tommy-Lee-Sparta

Tommy Lee has recently been known for his fascination with dark, Goth music and his single, “Psycho” displays  just that. The track has been on the countdown for 13 weeks but Lee’s fans have been enjoying his new found sound that they brought “Psycho” all the way to number one! Lee’s jump to the top pushed I-Octane down to number three and Popcaan to number six. But as always, Lee comes full force so we didn’t expect it to go any other way. Check out the countdown after the jump. (more…)

    LeeScratchPerryBoomshots

The story of Lee “Scratch” Perry has been told many times before, and it’s already been the subject of one outstanding documentary. But that’s not stopping Swiss filmmaker Volker Schaner from working on another Scratch movie. Schaner, who befriended the artist over a decade ago, has journeyed with Pipecock Jaxson around the globe documenting his day-to-day experiences while gaining personal insight into the artist’s enigmatic personality. With the creation of Vision of Paradise, more of Scratch’s wisdom will be introduced to the world but it can’t be done before the creators raise funds for the doc’s post production process. • HYPE TV Top 20: I-Octane Stands Strong at Number One

    I-Octane Takes Over The Countdown

    i-octane

I-Octane has made it yet another week at number 1 and he is holding on strong. “More Money,” has been hitting the airwaves and listeners are enjoying what they hear. It won’t be long till his newest single is on the countdown as well. Hopefully he won’t have to fight Tommy Lee or Mavado for the number 1 spot the next time around. But since he has already 4 singles on the countdown, I doubt he will have much of an issue.  (more…)

    Brit Reggae Awards 2013

The UK Reggae Biz Honors its Own

February is reggae month, so what better time of year for the British Reggae Industry Awards to take place? Last night a who’s who of reggae artists and shot-callers came together at the IndigO2 to give recognition to the workin’ peeps in the biz. The evening was packed with good vibes from award presentations to stage performances. One of My fave’s of the night was watching the Scottish band I Foundation. It’s been a minute since Scottish reggae’s been on the radio! They were super cute and they have a sense of humour too: walking past them backstage I overheard one of them saying “I think we need to go to Scotland to get some sun.” Maybe they were serious!?! Anyone who was out on the town in London last night knows it was bloody freezing!

David Rodigan turned up to collect his award for “Best Male Radio Personality.” Maxi Priest won “Best Male Vocalist.” Alton Ellis’s daughter Lovella picked up “Best Female newcomer” and she also collected “Best Male newcomer” for her brother Christopher Ellis—who was nominated for not 1 but 3 categories. His single “English” was up for best single, and he was also up for best British Video for his cover of his father’s “Williow Tree.” Looks like the Ghetto youth is makin’ moves, just in time for the launch of the Ghetto Youths album next Tuesday. Skibu bagged Best Album & Video, Gappy Ranks received Best MC and Best Single and Jah Shaka took home the award for “Best British Sound System.” Overall it was a night of good vibes and happy sounds in the place. As the compere said, “We nah pay fe scream—it free!” Full List of Winners & Video Interviews After The Jump…
