  • HEAR THIS: Carly Rae Jepsen “Call Me Maybe” Reggae Remix

Jon FX Flips A Thirsty Pop Tune Into a Ska Scorcher

As many millions of times as we’ve all heard “Call Me Maybe” by now, it’s amazing that the song doesn’t make us run screaming from the room whenever it comes on. But we don’t because Carly Rae Jepsen has given us one of the most irresistibly thirsty pop songs in recent memory. There’s something sexy and poignant about a cute and slightly insecure girl handing a random guy her number on impulse. Simple as it is, somehow the song’s premise never gets old. In fact, Carly Rae Jepsen may be the most promising third-place-winner on Canadian Idol ever. What makes “Call Me Maybe” grate on people’s nerves isn’t the song itself, it’s the backing track—especially those annoyingly cheesy synth chords. Which is why we all owe Jon FX a debt of gratitude. Like the BK-based beatsmith’s “Birthday Sex” remix before it, this ska reworking of “Call Me Maybe” is guaranteed 100% less annoying than the original. And that makes life a little bit better. Actually a lot. Audio After The Jump…

  • HEAR THIS: RDX & Friends “Jump” (Heatwave Refix)

Pree The Outlook Boat Party Mix

Our peoples at The Heatwave made this remix on a boat party in Croatia this summer. We’ll let them tell the tale… “We were so inspired by the beautiful women and their amazing dancing on our Hot Wuk boat party at Outlook Festival that we made a special refix in the heat of the moment floating on the Croatian ocean. The response was crazy and we NEARLY fell off the boat from all the scandalous excitement, but luckily we survived and managed to make it home with the laptop and MP3 intact.” While you rock to this, check out RGAT’s exclusive interview with Gabriel from The Heatwave.  Audio after the jump

  • HEAR THIS: Vybz Kartel ft. Action Bronson “Money” Remix

The Werlboss And  The Mad Albanian Genius Team Up For A Brand New Remix

“It’s all about making that money while I’m in the limelight,” said Vybz Kartel in an interview last year—before he was jailed on two counts of murder. “At the end of the day, when I retire, I want to know that I retired with enough money to take care of my family. Because I was born poor and I can die poor. But as long as my family’s okay and my kids are good, I’m good. I don’t take nothing that is happening in the music business personal. It’s just business to me. If I can capitalize on it, that’s what I’m going to do and make that extra buck.” Even now that he’s behind bars, Kartel’s business keeps going and going like the Energizer Bunny. The Werlboss just released his long-awaited book, and soon a deluxe edition of his album Kingston Story—produced last year by Mixpak Records—will be out on VICE Records, boasting a few never-before-heard tracks like “Money,” On this brand-new Dre Skull remix, it sounds like Action Bronson hit the Volcano before he stepped up to the mic—maaad.
