FLASHBACK FRIDAY: Major Lazer Feat. Lexxus & Santigold “Hold The Line”
Lazer, Lexxus & Santi Make Yuh Just Shake Like A Nokia
It’s undeniable that 2013 was a huge year for Major Lazer, selling out show after show and being on the production credits of many huge albums their name and fan base has definitely grown. There was a time however when only a select few were privy to the unique sound of Major Lazer, let’s say around the 2009 right before the Vybz Kartel assisted “Pon De Floor” ravaged the airwaves (and our eyes, if you saw the video) there was another tune entitled “Hold The Line.” Lazer pegged dancehall star Lexxus and rapper/singer Santigold a combination at the time no one saw coming, but given the collaborations Lazer have had over the years this was one of the more tamer ones. Consisting of Boom Dandimite, Elephant Man, Nitty Kutchie and Harry Toddler, Scare Dem took Dancehall by storm in the mid 90’s releasing a myriad of hits most memorably “Many Many,” Scare Dem’s ode to the number of girls they get when they feel like it. Here Comes The Boom
While we eagerly await Mr. Vegas Feat. Sean Paul and Fatman Scoop’s official video for their tune “Party Tun Up (Remix) we take a look back at one of Vegas and Paul’s previous Hip Hop collaborations from the classic Hype Williams directed “Belly.” The dog himself DMX roped in Vegas and Paul for the 1998 hit “Top Shotter” (commonly known as “Here Comes The Boom”) to create one of the best hip hop/dancehall crossover records ever. X’s gritty wordplay paired with Vegas and Sean’s attacking lyrics act as a perfect backdrop to Hype’s visuals. Video After The Jump… (more…)

FLASHBACK FRIDAY: Bunji Garlin “Gimme The Brass”
Before Differentology There Was Brass
Yesterday, Thursday 7th of November marked exactly one year since the mega hit “Differentology” was officially released to the world. Fast foward to the present and “Differentology” is still being played at high volumes and remix after remix is coming out the woodwork adding to the longevity of the tune. Bunji is a household name now, but there was a time when he was just another guy who had the talent and trying to make a name for himself performing at local secondary schools around Carnival time. WATCH THIS: Romain Virgo & Konshens “We No Worry Bout Them” Official Music Video
The Singer and DJ Take It Back To Street Dance Days on their Gallis Anthem

That’s right, the UK bashment sound has taken the latest Stylo track and styled it with some wayyyy-back sounds from JA. FLASHBACK FRIDAY: Ronnie Thwaites “Mr. Luxury”
The Wickedest Time When The Rain Start Fall
“The wickedest time when rain start fall,” is probably the most memorable lyric from Ronnie Thwaites’ entire catalog. It’s the first line from his King dancehall classic “Mr. Luxury” voiced on King Jammy’s digital version of the “Real Rock” riddim. Ronnie explains to us the problems females face during a little downpour, some send telegram some send phone call all for a little loving. Well they don’t call it 10 toes weather for nothing. HEAR THIS: Wayne Wonder “Flashback”
How’d Singso Know We’ve Been “Right Here Waiting” For One Of His Classics To Come Back?
There’s not many singers who can make a computerized riddim tug at your heartstrings like Wayne Wonder. His catalog is filled with dreamy love songs set to cutting-edge eletronic grooves. Back in the day he used to flip a lot of cover versions, until he hit 1995 with the turning point album Original Bombshell. Since then it’s been “No Turning Back” for the Billboard-certified outernational hitmaker. So we were pleasantly suprised when we received our latest Johnny Wonder 21st Hapilos E-Blast and saw that Wayne had linked with Mad Spyder productions to release a thing called “Flashback.” It’s a crispy 2013 update of his best-loved dancehall classics—a cover of Richard Marx’s pleasantly cheesy “Right Here Waiting”—inna 2013 style. And surprise surprise—it sounds sweeter than ever. Audio After The Jump… (more…) -

FLASHBACK FRIDAY: The Wailers “Concrete Jungle” (Original)
The Raw UnCut Verson Of One Of Bob Marley & The Wailers Hardest Tunes
With tomorrow, April 13th making it 40 years since arguably one of the most important reggae albums ever released, we here at Boomshots dug in the crates and pulled out the original cut of “Concrete Jungle” off the 1973 ground breaking record “Catch A Fire.” What most would notice at first is that the original doesn’t feature Wayne Perkins’ iconic guitar intro and three cord octave. A little bit of history here, Chris Blackwell the then founder of Island Records pegged Perkins’ to do overdubs of “Catch A Fire” to make it sound more Rock in an attempt to appeal to more audiences. Like most of the tracks on “Catch A Fire,” “Concrete Jungle” was recorded well before Bob and The Wailers were signed to Island. Take A Listen To Reggae History After The Jump… (more…)
