  • PREMIERE: The Club Famous Riddim

How  Portmore Night Club Drops A New Juggling Produced by Richie D
    FamousRiddimBoom

The newly opened Famous Nightclub in Portmore has linked with esteemed dancehall producer Richard “Richie D” Martin to drop a brand new juggling called the Club Famous riddim featuring new tracks from the Warlord, Bounty Killer, the Doctor Beenie Man, Voicemail, Stacious, Richie Loop and the “drunken master” Future Fambo. “The Famous riddim is a beat done with live drums and bass,” says producer Richie D. “I’ve always wanted to produce live music with an original dancehall (live stage show) kinda vibe. The riddim track was original named “stage show,” but after speaking with Gary Matalon about doing a track for Famous Night Club, we decided to rename it “Famous.” Bounty Killa’s song “Still Gamous” was the first song I wrote for the beat and the “Killa” killed it. Working with Fambo, Stacious, Richie Loops and Stein was an adventure—especially being off the production scene for a few years—all are very talented and great to work with. Beenie Man did a great job as well. Look out for other songs to be released on the Famous riddim soon. We’re also working on Famous 2 coming this Christmas.”

“KLE Group’s second nightclub concept is named Famous Nightclub,” says Gary Matalon, a partner in KLE Group. “Famous Nightclub is located in Portmore Jamaica. Its 12,000 square feet of amazing decor, light and sound. Since Cactus Nightclub, which closed over 10 years ago, there hasn’t been a premium, world-class club in this area. The concept was developed as a home for Jamaican music. Famous boasts the best in live entertainment including top selectors and artists as well as showcases upcoming talent.”

“We decided that a great way to embed our brand in the dancehall community would be contribute to the music directly,” Matalon said of the club’s decision to drop a riddim. The idea of leveraging our relationships with some of the greatest talent in the industry gives us a great opportunity to do just that. The songs on the Famous riddim will be great exposure and promotion for the club while the club provides a perfect platform to push the songs.”

Richie D prepared a special Boomshots mix especially for this premiere to show off all the new tracks on the juggling. Audio After The Jump… (more…)

  • HEAR THIS: Christopher Martin ft. Jim Jones “Cheaters Prayer” (Official Remix)

The Capo Spits Game Over ZJ Chrome’s Cardiac Strings Riddim… While Chris Prays For Strength
    ChrisMartinJimJonesBoom

The power of “Cheaters Prayer” doesn’t just flow from its soaring melody and ZJ Chrome’s bubbling “Cardiac Strings” riddim, The song’s real magic lies in the delicate balance of the singer’s presumed innocence and his player tendencies. Is the guy really praying for strength or is he using God as an excuse for his wayward ways? That balance gets thrown into a whole new light on this new remix featuring Jim Jones. This isn’t one of those cut and splice mashup jobs, this is an official remix. The Dipset Capo’s hard-boiled Harlem game makes Martin’s lyrics sound even more innocent, but his stunts are brazen that ladies are going to view the whole argument with even more skepticism than normal. Unless it’s true that girls love the bad boys, in which case it’s all good.   Audio After The Jump…

  • Letter From Kingston: Laing Reigns Supreme

Sevens Clash Pays A Visit To The Man Who Started Sting

Isaiah Laing is the originator of Sting, Jamaica’s premiere one-night live music event held on Boxing Day (December 26) annually since 1984. His preternatural ability to consistently populate the lineup with a perfect balance of talent has helped the show keep pace with constantly shifting tastes over the course of the past 28 years… Before Sting, Laing was a policeman. Active between 1976 and 1996 he was widely known as a rogue in the mold of men like Trinity, Tony Hewitt and Bigga Ford. A brush with mortality during a gun battle on Matches Lane early in his career led him to embrace a philosophy of duty based around a version of moral equivalency that would conveniently justify any activity outside the parameters of normal police protocol. Much like Texas Ranger John Coffee “Jack” Hays adopted the war tactics and fighting techniques of the feared Comanches along the North American frontier, in wild-West Kingston Laing became a bad man with a badge and a nine. Despite the potboilers overflowing with lurid tales of shootouts and battle scars (starring Laing as valiant crime fighter) that tend to litter the local news cycle around this time of year, his reputation on the street as a ruthless vigilante who has caught more bodies than bullets is deeply etched in popular memory. In 1991, when Tiger asked, “Whe di bad boy police name?” on his hit call and response record, When, everybody, including schoolchildren, knew the answer. Today, fully sixteen years since he turned in his badge, the proper reply remains the same, “Laing!”  (more…)

  • Busy Signal Is Free At Last

Fresh Out Of Prison, Busy Gives Thanks To God As He Touches Back Down On Jamaican Turf

Tweeting “Guess who’s back? God is GOOD!” Busy signal announced his return to Jamaica on Friday November 17, four days ahead of schedule but not a moment too soon. Incarcerated since May 21 for absconding from an old drug charge dating back to 2002, Busy was released from a federal prison in Minnesota after the judge determined that he had done so much good with his freedom over the past ten years that the artist had essentially rehabilitated himself. It looks like Busy lost a lot of weight during his six months behind bars, but some of that good old Jamaica cooking will surely do him good. Welcome back Busy! May your good fortune give hope to others who are languishing in prison even now. Photos and Video After The Jump… (more…)

  • Bolt Bigs Up The Beast

Olympic Gold Medalist Usain Bolt Speaks About How Losing to Yohann Blake Kept Him Focused

We’ve seen Usain Bolt celebrating in Jamaica after winning his first three Olympic gold medals. We’ve seen him Swaggin’ in South Korea. And we’ve seen him bigging up Cedella Marley for designing the fresh Puma gear he’s sporting in London 2012. We’ve even seen him having fun with the ladies and crashing a car or two—to the point where some people started to fret that the World’s Fastest Man needed to slow down a likkle bit. But when it came time to handle his business in London, Usain Bolt got a little extra push from his fellow Jamaican, Yohann Blake. “The trials woke me up. Yohan gave me a wakeup call,” Bolt said. “He knocked on my door and said, ‘Usain, wake up! This is an Olympic year.’” So after one race, Bolt’s got one gold medal and one new Olympic record. Last night at London’s IndigO2, Christopher Ellis premiered this track live. “I’m a reggae singer,” said Alton’s song from the stage, “I sing one-drop reggae. But this is something different.” Bay-C from TOK adds just enough dancehall flavor to keep the tune from drifting too far afield. All we know is it sounds like hit. (more…)

  • HEAR THIS: Sean Paul “Find It”

DuttyPaul Bruises Up Big Ship’s Brand New Bassline Riddim

Late last night Di Genius blasted out his new Bassline riddim and this one’s a banger. Of course Stephen and Chino have tunes on the riddim, as do Mavado, Busy, Aidonia, Spragga, Sasco, Fambo, Gyptian, Laden, Bramma—even Singing Sweet. Trust that you’ll be hearing all those tunes in heavy rotation this Summer, but this Sean Paul cut kinda jumped out from the rest. Sean’s new album Tomahawk Technique is his first to emphasize outernational production, but Jah know we still love the yard ting. Don’t take our word for it, though. Listen for yourself….

  • HEAR THIS: Patexxx “Wine & Go Dung”

Patexxx checks in with the 10 millionth dancehall song instructing girls how to “Wine.” But he wins with humorous lines like “Da wine deh a hold me / Mek me buy a fridge weh a Sony.” Bonus points for Echo One productions’ use of the Leland truck horn. Patexxx’s flow is reminiscent of Early Black’s “Stuck,” which was of course an homage to the Skullman classic “Stop.”
