The Gargamel’s Troubles Continue As His Legal Team’s Request For A Retrial Is Shut Down
A federal judge has denied reggae Buju Banton’s request for a new trial stating there’s no need due to a previous appeals court ruling. As we all know, the Jamaican singer was convicted in 2011 on cocaine conspiracy and trafficking charges along with a gun possession charge which was thrown out by the judge at the time of his sentencing. The appeals court ruled that there was sufficient evidence to convict Buju on the gun charge forcing Banton’s attorney file a motion (in July) seeking a new trial. Judge James Moody in Tampa denied that request Tuesday. Buju is already serving a 10-year prison sentence and because of the gun charge he could be looking at up to 15. Like the song says, “It’s not an easy road” and “Who feels it knows.”
