The Small Axe Jesse Royal collaborates with Major Lazer to premiere a hot new summer mixtape
The Small Axe, better known as Jesse Royal, is chopping up new tunes for the upcoming BRAND NEW mixtape Royally Speaking. Jamaican star Jesse Royal and Internationally renowned DJ Walshy Fire of Major Lazer are putting a fresh spin on previously released singles including tracks from Royal’s EP In Comes The Small Axe. The two creative forces have been working diligently to produce new material and plan to launch the mixtape July 14. The last up-and-coming reggae artist Walshy linked with to make a mixtape was somebody named Chronixx—and we all know how that turned out. Audio After The Jump
Jesse Royal carries impressive credentials, from working with the late Xterminator producer Fattis Burrell, legendary riddim duo Sly and Robbie, and EDM queen The Wizard. Having composed music with such a talented line-up of producers Jesse’s music reflects a diverse mixture of sounds from Electronic Dance Music, Dub, Rap, Roots Reggae, and Island Pop. The track ‘Modern Day Judas’ produced by Winta James of Overstand Ent. was one of the top features—along with Chronixx “Here Comes Trouble”—on the highly acclaimed Rootsman Riddim. So it is only appropriate that EDM duo Major Lazer who released Start A Fyah with Chronixx, follow up with another boomtastic endorsement of none other than The Palace Pickey: Jesse Royal!
Royally Speaking is an unexpected summer treat, following Royal’s recent t-shirt collab with street style brand RockersNYC. Along with performances in Jamaica, Royal has graced stages in North American cities New York and Coco Beach, Florida. The Small Axe is set to present onstage Reggae Sumfest International Night on July 18, 4 days following the debut of the pending mixtape. We are expecting great things from the reggae lyricist and roots rebel Jesse Royal and look forward to the choppings from Major Lazer coming soon.
