Super Cat speaks on Sting “I Never Got To Finish That Show”

“Our Music No Die,” says the Don Dada. “We A Rock of Ages and the Music Live In We Same Way”

The Wild Apache has been missing in action for a while but Boomshots was blessed to catch up with him in NYC during a rehearsal session for his big comeback shows. Tomorrow night at Amazura NYC Cat and Junior Demus will slip into some Clarks and white linen and take NYC back to the glory days of the Biltmore Ballroom. After that Cat will forward straight to Jamaica for the 30th Anniversary staging of Sting on December 26. “I never get to finish that show,” Cat says. “Because it was a clash between me and Ninja Man.” Cat says this time around there’s no clash planned, but he’s definitely looking to deal with some unfinished business. Sounds like a can’t-miss show. But if you can’t make it Jamrock, do not despair. Just hit up BringTheSting.com to learn how you can view the show via PayPerView or webstream.  In part one off this exclusive interview Cat touches on the Maccabee Bible, the roots of sound system culture, and also speaks on his respect for Shaggy and how his old friend came to check him when he was having a rough time. “Man like you don’t stay down fe long,” Shaggy told him, they came up with a plan to bring Cat out as a surprise guest this past Labor Day—and the rest is history. Sean Kingston Gets Back to His Jamaican Roots

Sean Kingston’s 10 Favorite Reggae Songs—PLUS  His New Tune w Busta Rhymes

Ever since Sean Kingston first burst on the music scene as a teenage pop sensation with a runaway debut hit “Beautiful Girls,” we’ve been hearing how he grew up in Jamaica and his music was influenced by reggae. As hard as we listened we never really heard much evidence of that influence beyond song titles like “Fire Burning.” But that seems to be changing with his new album, Back 2 Life, SK’s first full-length project since he sustained serious insuries in a jet-ski accident. The first indication was the lead-off single “Shotta Luv” feautring 2 Chainz. And then we stopped by his record-listening in NYC and heard a straight-up dancehall track featuring Busta Rhymes. Sean seemed to like it so much he played it like three times in a row. The next day we asked him to run down his ten favorite reggae and dancehall tracks—and we are not mad at the selections. He even says he wants to work with Shabba Ranks! So hit the jump to learn the half that’s never been told about Mr. Kingston. Videos After The Jump… (more…)

  • PREMIERE: The Club Famous Riddim

How  Portmore Night Club Drops A New Juggling Produced by Richie D
    FamousRiddimBoom

The newly opened Famous Nightclub in Portmore has linked with esteemed dancehall producer Richard “Richie D” Martin to drop a brand new juggling called the Club Famous riddim featuring new tracks from the Warlord, Bounty Killer, the Doctor Beenie Man, Voicemail, Stacious, Richie Loop and the “drunken master” Future Fambo. “The Famous riddim is a beat done with live drums and bass,” says producer Richie D. “I’ve always wanted to produce live music with an original dancehall (live stage show) kinda vibe. The riddim track was original named “stage show,” but after speaking with Gary Matalon about doing a track for Famous Night Club, we decided to rename it “Famous.” Bounty Killa’s song “Still Gamous” was the first song I wrote for the beat and the “Killa” killed it. Working with Fambo, Stacious, Richie Loops and Stein was an adventure—especially being off the production scene for a few years—all are very talented and great to work with. Beenie Man did a great job as well. Look out for other songs to be released on the Famous riddim soon. We’re also working on Famous 2 coming this Christmas.”

“KLE Group’s second nightclub concept is named Famous Nightclub,” says Gary Matalon, a partner in KLE Group. “Famous Nightclub is located in Portmore Jamaica. Its 12,000 square feet of amazing decor, light and sound. Since Cactus Nightclub, which closed over 10 years ago, there hasn’t been a premium, world-class club in this area. The concept was developed as a home for Jamaican music. Famous boasts the best in live entertainment including top selectors and artists as well as showcases upcoming talent.”

“We decided that a great way to embed our brand in the dancehall community would be contribute to the music directly,” Matalon said of the club’s decision to drop a riddim. The idea of leveraging our relationships with some of the greatest talent in the industry gives us a great opportunity to do just that. The songs on the Famous riddim will be great exposure and promotion for the club while the club provides a perfect platform to push the songs.”

Richie D prepared a special Boomshots mix especially for this premiere to show off all the new tracks on the juggling. Audio After The Jump… (more…)

    MrEasyLilysBoomshots

Last week on the Strictly Boomshots show we were blessed by the presence of a true veteran in the dancehall business. Talking about the man called Mr. Easy aka Easy like Sunday morning. You know his tunes like “She Drives Me Crazy” on the big bad Buyout riddim. And you heard his latest release, the summer banger “Fly Away” Ft. Beenie Man right here on Boomshots. But did you know that he used to kick it with Christopher Wallace back in Jamaica before he grew up to become Biggie Smalls? Or that he won Showtime at the Apollo? beenie-man-bet-awards-thelavalizard

Year in and year out, the BET Awards have become known for show-stopping performances. But the water-cooler talk this year isn’t about the latest hip-hop posse cut, it’s about the awards’ first-ever mashup of reggae and dancehall superstars. Opening with Dawn Penn’s Studio One classic “No No No” the set segued into Chake Demus & Pliers’ “Murder She Wrote” which had the venue of rap and R&B superstars  skanking and raving as Jabba punctuated their precise singer and DJ routine with his energetic exhortations. Next up was Beenie Man doing “Who Am I” and “Rum and Red Bull” and then Elephant Man came through in a zebra-print jacket to shut the whole show down in true Energy God style and fashion. As Elephant Man put it: “Feel good fi know seh BET Awards a request Elephant Man U have a million artistes dem can call but dem call Ele.” Witness history in the making. Video After The Jump… (more…)
