  • FLASHBACK FIRDAY: Vybz Kartel Feat. Wayne Marshall “New Millenium”

    Foundation Kartel     kartel

Last week Kartel dropped a scathing verse on Busta Rhymes Twerk It (Remix) reminding us even though he’s behind bars he’s still a force in the dancehall realm. Today we take back to when Kartel was making a name for himself, back when it seemed that every riddim Don Corleone produced was mad specifically for Kartel. The riddim which introduced the world to the Gaza Boss was the Krazy Riddim with his breakout hit “New Millenium” featuring Wayne Marshall. Now Kartel and Wayne both appeared on another tune over the Krazy Riddim called “Why You Doing It” which was often played back to back that many believed it was all one song. He may be a few shades lighter but the lyrics was always there – Tune After The Jump…  (more…)

  • FLASHBACK FRIDAY: “Machel Montano “Teacher’s Footsteps”

    Machel Was Always A Starmachel

We reached back all the way to 1984 and found a then nine year old Machel Montano performing at the Dimache Gras show as a special guest, the same year he ran away with the Junior Soca Monarch title. Even at this tender age we can see that Mr. Montano had all the makings of an international Soca star, his stage pressence, subject matter and even how he held the audience shone through at just nine. Hit The Jump For This Treat… (more…)

It’s Officially The First Day Of Summersummertime

Today marks the first official day of Summer and what better way to welcome the hot sun and bess body girls than with the Gaza general himself Vybz Kartel. “Summer Time” dropped in 2011 around the same time Kartel had solidified his domination of dancehall music to the point where if Kartel wasn’t on your riddim your riddim wasn’t hot. It would be unfortunate that that same year was when Vybz was arrested on a marijuana possession charge with later he was subsequently charged with murder and sentenced to jail where he still waits for trial to this day. Two years later and this tune is still the anthem of the Summer, Hol A Vibes After The Jump… (more…)
