Another Gyal Anthem—But Which Part Ah Get Bruk First?

It’s no secret that Konshens is a ladies man. In the past five years, the artiste born Garfield Spence has expressed his affinity for the opposite sex and how much he enjoys seeing them Bounce Like A Ball and Walk and Wine. And in typical SubKonshus Music fashion, the Sherlock native delivers yet another female-friendly record for 2016. Produced by Birchill Records on the popular Moskato Riddim, “Bruk Off Yuh Back” is a call to Kons’ core audience to do just that—or at least bruk sumpn, depending on which version of the tune you prefer—as evidenced in these visual accompaniments (1.5 million & counting!) courtesy of Warrior Films.  Video After The Jump…. Will There Be A Distant Relatives Reunion at This Year’s 9Mile Music Festival?

If The Stars Align This Weekend In Miami, Anything Can Happen

The 9 Mile Music Festival was established in 1993 as the brainchild of Cedella Marley Booker in honor of her son, Robert Nesta Marley. Formerly known as Marley Fest and The Caribbean Music Festival, the event has been renamed 9 Mile after Bob’s birthplace as well as his final resting place—the little village in St. Ann Parish that lies at the heart of the Marley legacy. More than a concert,  the 9 Mile Music Festival provides millions of canned goods to local homeless shelters and domestic centers throughout Miami; feeding families in need for months after the show is over. For 22 years, the concert has required canned goods in addition to the price of admission, and it always will. Given its strong ties to the Marley family, the show is always packed with reggae royalty, and this year is no exception, with Stephen “Ragga” Marley, Julian “JuJu Royal” Marley, and their nephew Skip Marley all scheduled to perform this Saturday, February 27th. In addition, both Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley and Nas are billed—and while each of these living legends will be performing his own set, anticipation is in the air that the two lyrical giants may join forces on stage to recreate the magic of their 2010 album Distant RelativesFull Details After The Jump… (more…)

  • Remembering J Capri

    Remembering J Capri

The untimely death of a rising dancehall artist

The most difficult news to grasp is the untimely death of a young, ambitious, big thinker. These are words friends of Jordan Phillips aka J Capri use to describe her. She reminded most of a young Patra, she definitely had “crossover potential”. Her musical sound was a fusion of dancehall and rhythm and blues. It looked like the stars were aligned for this fairly new artist. Her music ignited on the  dancehall scene with collaborations with Sean Paul, Vybz Kartel, Konshens, Charly Black and other international artists. In these collaborations and her solo songs, J Capri held her own and captivated audiences with sultry vocals and vivacious live performances.

    “Money Plan Complete”

Like Kanye Said Money Isn’t Everything, Not Having It IS
Konshens put it plain from early out. The first time he stopped by the Strictly Boomshots show he explained how he drew a musical line in the sand and said “this year me haffi be the winner.” The reason? Not vanity, but because “me nah go me yard without the youth dem dinner.” Well it surely worked and Konshens has been winning for some time now. And here the DJ comes again with some more musica; motivation. “Bless my plans Almighty Jah… I wake up with a medz like, teach them youths to be wise and medz right.” As Konshens himsef puts it: “Some ppl are just lucky, some people inherited money, some ppl got all the good connections, some ppl got unbelievable undeniable talent, some got all the above mentioned…….. Some just worked nonstop harder and smarter everyday and refused to not succeed. Ppl have been born rich and turn out to nothing and others have been born in the worst situations and places humanly possible and turn out to be ICONS on earth… #noexcuses #Work MIXTAPE OUT NOW!!” Download Link After The Jump…

HEAR THIS: Mink Jo ft. Konshens “No Friend Zone”

    Who’s That Girl?

This tune is the first we’ve heard of Mink Jo. All we can say for sure is that the Jamaican chanteuse is easy on the eyes—and she and Konshens definitely have some, um, creative chemistry bubbling on this track, courtesy of Dre Day Productions. Something about her voice sure sounds familiar. Critics have branded her a Rihanna wannabe, but with the BNM team in her corner she’s aiming to blaze her own trail. Keep an eye out for Mink’s Boy Girl Love mixtape and meanwhile keep this tune Pon di Replay.  Audio After The Jump… (more…)

Nah Tell No Lie, Konshens Haffi Give Thanks to the Most High

As the late great Tenor Saw once sang, life is one big road with lots of signs. It’s tempting to imagine that everything would be easier if you were rich or famous—as if money and fame would solve all the problems in life. But just ask Tenor Saw, the reality is that it’s not easy living one’s life in the spotlight. Not everyone is built for it. On the good days it’s very good, but on the not-so-good days it can feel pretty lonely. Konshens’ latest video reflects on those quiet moments, away from the raving and the madness, when the darkness sets in, solitude, self-doubt, and all those mental obstacles that can be even tougher to overcome than the physical ones. But with God at your side, there’s nothing you cannot achieve. Uzeet?!? Video After The Jump… (more…)

The Turf Prez Stirs The Pot With Some Pointed Questions

In Busy Signal’s latest song,  “What If?” the Turf President puts on his philosophical hat and generates thought-provoking lyrics about the unpredictability of life. His lyrics emphasize that good and bad things happen to everyone, and we never know when adversity will swing our way, in the pendulum of life.  More After The Jump…

Konshens Pays Tribute to the Wild Apache and The ReggaeGirlAboutTown Scores An All-Access Pass

Jukeboxx Productions’ “Greatest Creation” Riddim is all about reaching for the next level in dancehall. From Shabba Ranks to Lady Saw to Tarrus Riley and Sasco, the lineup on this juggling is straight toppa-top status. Inspired by such prestigious company, Konshens decided to up the ante by making his tune a musical homage to Super Cat‘s 1991 smash “Don Dada,” subtly retitled “Don Daddy.” Boomshots got the invitation from for an exclusive visit to the video shoot and headed for downtown Brooklyn—only to find that the location had been shut down. But with Konshens jetting off to Europe the following morning, rescheduling was not an option. So the entire production team headed straight down Utica Avenue to Nova nightclub—who opened their doors in the wee small hours of the morning—but the journey was well worth it. (Shouts to producer Ronnie Tomlinson, director Anju Val, and nuff respect to Maximus R. Irving who created the wicked Super Cat painting seen above DJ Kevin Crown.) Roll with the ReggaeGirlAboutTown as she chats with Konshens about why it’s so important for dancehall’s new generation to pay respect to the icons in the business, or rather culture—and she even got to kick it with Colenol Josey Wales himself. Because a Don is a Don, and not a Dondelion. So while you wait for the official video to drop, pree the World Premiere of this exclusive teaser. Video After The Jump… (more…)
