WATCH THIS: Kranium ft. Tory Lanez “We Can” Official Music Video
Queens x Toronto Link-Up
Ever since he put Queens dancehall on the map with his x-rated worldwide smash “Nobody Haffi Know,” Kranium has been putting in much work while ignoring the haters. After signing a deal with Atlantic Records the stakes were raised even higher but somehow the singjay has maintained his cool while developing his own distinctive voice. Hitting the road with New Toronto sensation Tory Lanez, Kranium has carved out his own lane, and developed some creative chemsitry with the T-Dot reprsenter and today they dropped a new video for their collab “We Can.” Inspired perhaps by President Obama’s “Yes We Can” refrain during his Farewell Address, Kranium makes it clear that he and his girl can do just about anything they want. The visuals are as tasteful as the tune is raw. With Mr. Lanez’ radio clout, it sounds like Kranium may have a next banger on his hands. Audio After The Jump…

HEAR THIS: Kranium x Tory Lanez “We Can”
From Toronto To Queens Pum Pum Reigns Supreme
A half-Bajan R&B/hip hop artist from Toronto who’s been doing his thing for a few years now, Tory Lanez has recently begun exploring Caribbean sounds. When Tory’s “LUV,” a reworking of Tanto Metro & Devonte’s worldwide dancehall hit “Everyone Falls In Love,” was described as “Terrible” by OVO stalwart Boi 1da, Tory proceeded to remix Drake’s “Controlla” in a fairly murderous fashion and tweeted that he was “bout to have Jamaica on fire.” Today he drops “We Can,” a sexed-up combination with Kranium which sounds more like Kranium jumping on a Tory Lanez #Swavey R&B track than vice versa. Still their icy machismo nicely complements this gauzy beat from Sak Pase and DJ Marley Waters as two young players pledge allegiance to the pum pum. Audio After The Jump… (more…)

“Sounds From The Caribbean Stage” Showcase at SXSW Reps Reggae & Dancehall To The World
W&R Projects x Irie Jam x Boomshots Link Up To Make Music History
Launching as a regional music festival in 1987, SXSW (pronounced “South By Southwest”) has grown by leaps and bounds to become one of the biggest cultural events in the world—expanding to a nine-day marathon encompassing Film and Interactive as well as Music. Major motion pictures like Neighbors, 21 Jump Street, and Bridesmaids as well as the TV series Girls have premiered and secured distribution deals at SXSW. Major digital startups like Twitter and Foursquare debuted at SXSW. But music is the lifeblood of the festival, with over 28,000 artists participating last year, from unknown hopefuls (John Mayer and James Blunt are just two of the future stars to be discovered at SXSW in years past) to bonafide megastars (Kanye West, Prince, Lil Wayne and Jay Z have all performed there in recent years). One area that has been woefully under-represented at SXSW has been Reggae. But this year, W&R Projects have linked with Irie Jam and Boomshots to represent reggae and dancehall music to the world at this influential gathering of media tastemakers and industry power-players. “Sorry,” Not Sorry: A Justin Bieber Remix Rewind
Biebz x Skrillex Have The Dance On Lock
Ever since the “Tropical House” track “Sorry” dropped last October, it’s been going HAM in the dancehall. If the ragga drum patterns didn’t tip you off, then those New Zealand bashment girls in the official video—Ladies of ReQuest joining forces with the Royal Dance Crew—must have driven the point home. Skrillex has always been a big reggae fan and he’s been spending nuff time in Jamaica lately. It seems the local sounds are definitely rubbing off. But they rub both ways of course. What dancehall artist doesn’t enjoy a good remix? This holiday season the club was flooded with “Sorry” versions. Here are a few of our favorites, without any apology. Audio After The Jump… (more…)
