Tifa sat down with the ReggaeGirlAboutTown for an exclusive interview last week in Kingston, Jamaica. “Everybody else has been talking,” she said, “now it’s my turn to talk.” Tifa says she doesn’t feel like she needs to beef with Lady Saw, and wants to focus on taking Tifa to the world. She just wishes there was more unity among female artists in the business. Video After The Jump…

The Mad Gyal Goes OnStage With Winford Williams To Talk Di Tings Dem
The Dancehall girl fight continues to escalate as Spice visits OnStage with Winford Williams, the same show where Macka Diamond recently vented frustration against various female artists including Lady Saw and another whom she would refer to only as “the black one.” (UPDATE: Macka has even released a diss song called “Kill the Black One.”) Though she says she considers herself “Black and beautiful,” Spice made no attempt to hide her annoyance with Macka. “Me haffi box her down, jook out her eye, and nearly take out the eye outta her head,” Spice recalled of a physical confrontation between the artists some years back. Though the guys get most of the attention with their so-called beef and lyrical clashes, Spice says the dancehall divas have some serious rivalries of their own: “The women dem inna the business, them fight ‘gainst them one another. It come in like crab inna barrel. If you put on a nail polish, and it look better than fi her own, them wan’ chop off your fingers fe it.” Wow. Spice goes on to recall her falling out with Lady Saw. But she says her and Tifa’s song “Why You Mad” was not written for anyone in particular. Well, not anyone that she cares to mention at the moment. Video After The Jump… (more…) -

In fact Lady Saw recently said she was getting out of the business because she can’t bother with the stress from other artists. Although she mentioned no names, many people she was speaking about Macka Diamond. Well Macka recently sat down with Winford Williams of OnStageTV to tell her side of the story. Is Lady Saw Getting Out Of The Game?
Say It Ain’t So, Saw!
OMG! Is it really over for Lady Saw?!? They say “All Good Things Must Come To An End,” but we’re hoping this turns out to be one of those rumors that gets cleared up—fast!
Sadly this news does seem to be coming straight from the Queen herself. In a recent radio interview Saw discussed the struggles of life in the dancehall business and specifically the difficulties that she’s had with other female artists. She also discusses her calling from the Almighty and plans for a gospel collaboration with Mavado. (Which actually sounds kinda hot, come to think of it.) But still, why quit now just when she was about to shoot the video for her big single “Heels On,” and with an album of the same name on the way?
It’s not like Saw can’t mash up any dance, stage-show, or clash anytime she feels like it. Could this have anything to do with another recent interview in which Macka Diamond spoke of her issues with Lady Saw? It’s been no secret that Saw’s had her ups and downs with other females in the biz, including Spice & Tanya. But earlier this Summer, when Saw was crowned Queen of the Dancehall, she made a point of showing love for the other ladies in the business. How soon they forget. Interview After The Jump… (more…)

The Top 20 Lady Saw Songs
All Hail The Queen
Photographs by William RichardsHappy (belated) Birthday Dancehall Queen. You’ve heard the phrase “Bad Bitches Bomb First”? Well I fink it was originated by this Lady here. Over the years Marion Hall, aka Lady Saw, has taken the reggae industry by storm, blazing a trail for females in a field that’s supposedly dominated by the boys. Despite being a “lady,” her chat has been tough enough to compete with—and in many cases, excel—her male counterparts. Of course she’s created her fair share of controversy along the way—revolutionaries always do. (more…)

HEAR THIS: Elephant Man & Lady Saw “Sidung”
Backshot Did Nice, But Nothing Sweeter Than When She “Sidung Pon It”
Elephant Man and Lady Saw have joined forces for a crazy combination called “Sidung.” When it comes to slackness, nobody can touch Muma Saw, and she’s definitely been on a roll after tearing up not one but two tracks off Truckback’s “Sex Tape” riddim. Sounds like Elly’s hanging on for dear life on this blazing track produced by Jazzwad. Selectors take note—”Sidung” is the song to get the party started, or maybe the after-party.

As a Trini gal growing up in Queens, Nicki Minaj always had nuff respect for dancehall giants like Beenie, Bounty, and Lady Saw. She even reps Gully and Gaza just like her Young Money bredren. But action speaks louder than words, so we gotta give Nicki props for reaching out to the Doctor as she was putting together her highly anticipated sophomore album, Roman Reloaded. Okay she’s reloaded, but is “Gunshot” a certified Boomshot?
