Nobody Nah Talk, So Madhouse Haffi Cuss BLOOD CLXXT

The term “BLOOD CLXXT” has a rich and complex history in the Jamaican vernacular. “You can’t get more authentic Jamaican than blood claat,” says dancehall star Baby Cham. “Blood claat is the only word we use for joy, frustrations, stress, happiness.” Officially considered a profanity on the island, the word can get an artist in a whole heap of trouble if they utter it onstage. But given the mood of the times all over the world, there was no other word to sum of the vibes of moment. And so of course the dancehall super-producer Dave Kelly chose the word as the title of the first single from Baby Cham and Bounty Killer’s highly anticipated collaborative EP Time Bomb on the legendary Madhouse Records imprint. Boomshots is proud to premiere the official video for the tune today, along with “Buss The Dance,” a video recap of the big Madhouse tribute which took place last week at Reggae Sumfest in Montego Bay. Reasoning with Cham: ”No! We never pay! We lawless.”

Whenever the artist who gave us classic cuts like “Ghetto Story” connects with his year-to-year sparring partner Dave Kelly of Madhouse Records, you can expect something wicked. The second official track (after the boasy “Money Wine“) off Cham’s  Lawless album just premiered  on MASS APPEAL. “Get Drunk” is a sexy, fun, flirtatious tune that Cham describes as “a fusion of dancehall and world music.” It’s also the long-awaited return of Miss O, whose previous collabs with Cham—”Back Way,” “Tun Up” and “Wine“—were straight bangers. “She had been kinda staying away from the recording booth for a minute,” says Cham “but I got her to grace her presence on this track which is a good thing.” Cham says he made her an offer she couldn’t refuse, which judging by the song may have involved some strong liquor and a few acrobatic positions.    Audio & Interview After The Jump… (more…)

Show Me The Light, And Mek It Shine Bright

Anytime Cham and Dave Kelly connect, they’re going to make a big tune. But when Cham and the Stranger link with Gongzilla? Now that’s history in the making. We’ve been all over this song “Fighter” since it first dropped, but today the visuals were premiered over at Hova’s site, Life & Times. (Now that’s how you roll out a big project.) Love the image of the two Damians playing chess—and making big moves. #Kings. Show them the light.

Gongzilla Combines With The Kid On This Brand New Madhouse Selection

A new joint from The Stranger (aka Dave Kelly) is an event. He and his brother Tony created the blueprint of modern dancehall. The Stranger’s latest production shows a definite trap/EDM influence but it still sounds just as Stink as ever. Junior Gong sings a hook that sounds like a Bible verse (“We shall reap the riches, plentiful like the grains of sand”) while Cham spits bars on behalf of “The faithful, the ones who never stop till the work is done. Show them the light. Audio After The Jump… (more…)

    This Ain’t No Beach Party

Cham’s “Stripper Pose” video looks like it had to be one of the funnest video shoots ever. Beautiful girls on a beach with big bass cabinets blasting dancehall—what’s not to like? His song “Lawless” video might be on the same Dave Kelly–produced riddim, but the visuals depict totally different situation. It’s a rudeboy tune after all, a block-by-block survey of which neighborhood in Kingston is the maddest and why. We’re talking black bandanas, high-speed chases, outwitting Babylon at every turn. Fasten your seatbelt. Video After The Jump…

This Might Just Be The Sexiest Video Of The Year

We’ve seen a lot of sexiness in dancehall videos this year. We’ve seen girls tun up, bruk it down, and just a bubble. But this new Cham joint just took it to another level. It’s so simple, so raw, so real. Cham just strung up a sound, threw a likkle beach party, and invited a few friends over, and everyTING tun up. The only part we don’t understand is why the hook says “you own the clothes” and these girls are wearing next to nothing. Oh well, bikinis ain’t cheap. Just make sure to rinse the sand outta your shorts. Video after the jump

The Poor People Governor Turns It Up Again With Madhouse

Gully Gaad, Warlord, Timberlee, Cham and Chase Cross at Big Yard Studio.

Madhouse Productions’ new “Turn It Up” riddim has been making noise for a couple of weeks already. But the mission was not complete until late last night, when Dave Kelly and Rodney Price finished off “The Message,” a powerful statement that Killer and Madhouse were back in effect—”the link seal and the link real.” And the new lyrics in the full version go even harder…
