The Major pegs recent Grammy winner Pharrell Williams for their latest offering. The infectious track entitled “Aerosol Can” is part of Major Lazer’s “Apocalypse Soon” EP set to drop February 25th. The song earns its namesake from the sample of an aerosol can being shaken and sprayed, now pair that with addictive drums and Pharrell’s witty wordplay and you have a hit guaranteed to start any party. Lazer, Lexxus & Santi Make Yuh Just Shake Like A Nokia
It’s undeniable that 2013 was a huge year for Major Lazer, selling out show after show and being on the production credits of many huge albums their name and fan base has definitely grown. There was a time however when only a select few were privy to the unique sound of Major Lazer, let’s say around the 2009 right before the Vybz Kartel assisted “Pon De Floor” ravaged the airwaves (and our eyes, if you saw the video) there was another tune entitled “Hold The Line.” Lazer pegged dancehall star Lexxus and rapper/singer Santigold a combination at the time no one saw coming, but given the collaborations Lazer have had over the years this was one of the more tamer ones. Snoop Lion And The Major Join Forces Against The Evil Sound
Snoop pays homage to the early days of Pokémon in his latest visual, only this time he isn’t battling the evil Team Rocket. Instead (after a brief test of might) he and Major Lazer hop on their hover board and flying lowrider respectively and take on the forces of bad music. Mr. HD And Major Lazer Link Up
Following his Soca brethren Bunji Garlin, Mr. HD himself Machel Montano links up with Major Lazer on a wicked tune entitiled “Sound Bang.” As the title states, the song definitely bangs. Using their trademark fusion of Electro and caribbean influences Lazer manages again to create a track that will no doubt appease both sides. Gyppy’s Latest Album Debuted At No. 1 on Billboard’s Reggae Chart
The night before Gyptian released his latest album Sex, Love & Reggae he spent the evening celebrating his 30th birthday with Rob Kenner on Radio Lily. After the webcast Gyppy and an entourage of his friends, including Bascom X, Fyakin, Khago and Danielle D.I. rolled over to the legendary SOB‘s to continue the celebration at the highly anticipated, SOB’s Reggae Music Fest, presented by Tree Reid Promotions. NYC’s renowned selector DJ Stranger, X-Caliber Sound warmed up the crowd awaiting their arrival. Next up, the extraordinary Derrick Barnett (founder and former bassist for the legendary Jamaican band Sagittarius ) and his Statement Band including Raymond Stewart on keyboards, Andy Bassford on guitar and Damian Martellie on drums, excited the crowd with an electrifying live session. After hearing the full thing, we have to say yes. There are definitely some bangers on this album that real reggae fans need in their life.
