Some longtime fans have complained that his new album blends international pop sounds and production to his usual dancehall recipe. But Sean defends his work here, saying it’s all part of his campaign to take dancehall to the next level.     Before The Dawn Honor Lifts Spirits As The Gargamel’s Trial Resumes

    Although Buju Banton was not able to attend the Grammy Awards ceremony yesterday in Los Angeles, the reggae star—who is still confined to Florida—celebrated his win to the fullest. A member of Buju’s security team was startled when he heard shouting from Buju’s hotel room in Tampa, where the artist faces jury selection in his second trial on drug charges today. “I thought something was wrong,” the guard told The Jamaica Observer. Instead he found out Buju had won the Grammy for Best Reggae Album. (more…)

    Who Will Be Named Best Reggae Artist At The 2010 Soul Train Awards?

    Nuff respect to the original Don (Cornelius). The Soul Train Awards ceremony takes place this Wedensday in Atlanta. And while Usher and Alicia Keys lead all nominees this year, we’re focused one of the newer categories. Last year Sean Paul walked away with the first ever Soul Train Award for Best Reggae Artist. This year’s nominees include Gyptian, Mr. Vegas, Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley, Vybz Kartel, Gramps Morgan, and Jah Cure—a diverse mix of roots reggae, soul, lovers’ rock and straight-up dancehall, and a better representation than most other major awards shows.
