WATCH THIS: Mojo Morgan ft. Gramps Morgan & Stephen “Ragga” Marley “Be Free” Lyric Video

And Now For Something Completely Different
“Hit me from the top,” sings Stephen “Ragga” Marley at the start of “Be Free,” a three-the-hard-way posse cut featuring hard bars from Mojo and smooth vocals from his brother Gramps of Grammy-winning reggae band Morgan Heritage. Bob Marley’s second son has become a reggae legend in his own write, producing top talent in the worlds of reggae, rap and R&B and rocking stages all over the world as he breaks down the walls of musical apartheid. “Let me lead the rebellion,” Mojo states over a madd track built around a vintage Wailers sample. When Mojo speaks of “One billion sons that’s full of conviction / Determination to rock the nation,” this  song sounds hard enough to do just that—and the visual featuring Trump dancing in a jail cell (which premiered today via Mass Appeal) will make your day. Free up yourself and plug in to some different vibes. Video After The Jump…

On this day Robert Nesta Marley, aka the Tuff Gong, aka the King of Reggae, would have turned 72. Gong’s Earthstrong will be marked by a full day of celebration at the Bob Marley Museum on Hope Road in Kingston, Jamaica. Starting from 6 o’clock in the morning, priests from the Ethiopian Orthodox Church come and bless the place. Niyabinghi drummers and the whole thing straight back to night. For those cannot be there in person, Tuff Gong Television is streaming the celebration live today. “Yeah man,” says Stephen “Ragga” Marley by telephone after a long day of rehearsals. “Nice vibe.” We reached out to Ragga in honor of Bob Marley’s birthday and also to talk about another big celebration for the Marley family coming up this year. Stephen recently announced the launch of Kaya Fest, with the stated purpose “To educate the people of the many uses of this plant as well as to inspire and encourage positive public awareness since medical marijuana became legal in Florida in 2016.” Reasoning After The Jump… (more…)

Kartel Tops Billboard 10 Best Reggae Albums List

The best of times and the worst of times for lovers of Reggae Music

For the second year in a row Billboard asked Rob Kenner, founder of Boomshots Media, to pick the 10 Best Reggae Albums of the year. The assignment was particularly significant in this year where Jamaican sounds were all over the airwaves, the pop charts and the Grammy nominations, except that most of the records were not done by Jamaican artists. You could hardly turn on the radio without hearing a half-hour block of dancehall-style tracks, all too often classified under misbegotten names like “tropical house” and “Caribbean bass.” With both Justin Bieber and Rihanna briefly sporting dreadlocks and Drake publicly referring to himself as “the don,” it would be difficult for longtime fans of the music not to catch feelings this year….Consider this list a crib sheet to catch you up on everything you missed while tropical house flooded the airwaves.  Full List After The Jump…
